"All this stuff will cover our scent and hers, until we're ready." John said as he neared the camp fire.

"Stuff stinks." Dean said.

"That's the point." Jessica said.

"Dust your clothes with the ashes." John said to Dean. "And you'll stand a chance of not being detected."

"You sure they won't come for her?" Sam asked his father.

"Yeah, Vampires mate for life." John said. "She means more to the leader than the gun. But the blood sickness is gonna wear off soon, so you don't have a lot of time."

Sam put his machete away. "Half-hour ought to do it."

"And then I want you out of the area as fast as you can." John said. Jessica looked at John like he was insane. She was never going to leave him. She wouldn't.

"But—" Sam was cut off by Dean.

"Dad, you can't take care of them all yourself."

"I'll have her and the Colt." John replied.

"But after, we're gonna met up, right?" Sam asked. "Use the gun together, right?"

Jessica stood up and walked over towards John. He was silent.

"You're leaving again, aren't you?" Jessica said. John looked at her.

Sam shook his head. "You still want to go after the demon alone? You know, I don't get you. You can't treat us like this."

"Like what?" John asked.

"Like children." Sam replied.

"You are my children." John said. "I'm trying to keep you safe."

"Dad," Dean started. "All due respect, but that's a bunch of crap."

"Excuse me?" John raised a brow.

"You know what, Sammy and I have been hunting. Hell, you sent us on a few hunting trips yourself. You can't be that worried about keeping us safe."

"It's not the same thing Dean." John said.

"Then what is it, John?" Jessica looked at the man. She could feel the two Winchester boys staring at her. "Why do you want us out of the big fight?"

"This demon... is a bad son of a bitch." John replied. "I can't make the same moves, I'm worried about keeping you alive."

"You mean you can't be as reckless." Dean said.

"Look..." John started. "I don't expect to make it out of this fight in one piece." John paused. "Your mother's death... it almost killed me. I can't watch my children die too." John looked at Jessica. "I won't."

"What happens if you die?" Dean asked. "Dad what happens if you die and we could've done something about it. You know, I've been thinking. Maybe Sammy's right about this one. I think we should do this together." Deans voice was breaking. "We're stronger as a family, Dad. We just are. You know it."

"We're running out of time." John said. "You do your job, and get out of the area. That's an order."

"Dammit John!" Jessica could feel tears rolling down her cheeks. "Your sons care about you, hell I care about you!" Jessica stood in front of John so he couldn't go anywhere. "You're like a father to me! I can't—I won't let you die. Your sons need you. I need you." Jessica huffed as all of her anger began to leave her.

John had red glassy eyes. His heart was slowly breaking. But he couldn't let them see it.

"You have your orders, follow them." John walked away. Jessica looked up at the sky and released a shaky breath. She sniffed and closed her eyes. He was never going to listen.
