We see a distraught looking Lois walk towards her booth as JIMMY OLSEN prances towards her with a smug expression. He sits on her desk whilst chewing on an apple.
JIMMY
(Snickering)
You better watch out, miss Lane!
The boss's gunnin for ya! He knows you're Godfrey's anonymous source.
LOIS
(with clenched teeth)
Get your ass off my desk before I tell em to increase your workload,Kid.
Jimmy immediately leaps up, looking mortified.
JIMMY
Jeez, calm down! It wasn't me ratting you out!
Lois walks away, ignoring him.
Lois knocks on Perry's office door and heads in.
Perry looks furious.
PERRY
I told you not to run with it. And what do you do? You let Godfrey just shotgun it all over the internet. Now the publishers want me to sue you.
Lois crosses her arms.
LOIS
If it makes any difference, I'm dropping the story.
PERRY
Sorry isn't gonna-Wait. You what?
Perry stops mid sentence and stares at Lois in bewilderment.
LOIS
Yeah. I'm dropping it.
PERRY
Whoa. Just like that?
LOIS
Yep. Story was smoke.
Leads went cold.
PERRY
Or did the story not get the traction that you hoped it would?
Lois shrugs her shoulders.
PERRY
You're fired.
Lois opens her mouth to retort when the office door opens and one of the clerks, Jenny , pokes her head in holding her phone in her hand.
JENNY
Chief, It's Grant. He just landed in a car accident last night. Drunk driving. He's in the ICU. His wife called to let you know.
PERRY
GODDAMM IT!
Perry turns to Lois as Jenny leaves.
PERRY
Lane, You're unfired. I need you here. You can thank Grant for that.
LOIS
Uh...
PERRY
But this changes nothing. Two weeks leave. No pay. That's what you get.
LOIS
(Sighs )
Fine.Whatever.
Lois nods and leaves.
CUT TO:
EXT.KENT HOUSE -DAY.
Martha Kent looks up from gardening the front yard.
We see Clark walking towards her, a rucksack over his shoulder.
The bus behind him leaves.
MARTHA
Clark?
Dusty barks joyfully and bolts at Clark, jumping up and down.
