Roman Prince was vain
That was his fatal flaw

"Hey Virge! Someone at work today called me handsome!" Roman announced as he entered his house after a long day of filming, he was an actor after all, he was practically beaming, "I feel amazing, it was so nice and I'm all happy and wow." He sat down at their kitchen table waiting for his boyfriend to come through with their food. Inside the kitchen Virgil was tightening his grip on the saucepan he was putting away, he wasn't jealous but rather annoyed or maybe hurt would be a better word, "The food will be a minute, babe." He put the pan away before he hit it against something out of frustration and served up their food. His mind ticking away thinking if he should say anything to Roman or not but in the end he decided not to say a word about it to his boyfriend. "Here you are," Virgil placed a plate in front of the actor and then his own spot at their dining table, Roman had always insisted even before he got famous that they say at a dining table together so they could speak about their days and have a normal conversation rather than being distracted by rubbish on the TV... which is honestly quite amusing coming from an actor, before sitting down.

"So you had a good day then?" Virgil questioned playing with his food a little, he wasn't really hungry anymore, he looked at Roman with interest mostly curious as to what else his boyfriend would say. "Well you obviously heard what I said when I came in, didn't you?" Roman was apparently still beaming from the compliment. Virgil sighed internally then forced a convincing smile, "Yes I did and that's nice but I want to hear about your shoot and what happened during it, like did you finally manage to successfully do the bar scene without laughing?" That managed to change the topic and Virgil honestly could listen to the actor speaking about his filming forever because he was so passionate about it and Virgil found it adorable but unfortunately he had to finish talking about it because there was nothing else to say. "And did you manage to finish another chapter today, baby?" Roman smiled at his boyfriend, just as interested in his day as Virgil was with Roman's. "It took a long time but I did finally manage too but it's draining Ro and I don't think it's good enough... what if they reject me again?" Virgil was an aspiring writer but he hated his work a lot of the times and the one time he'd sent something away he'd been proud of the publishing company had rejected and had created a major hole in his confidence. "Then they're idiots cause your writing is amazing!"

The next day followed the same loop Roman would come in announcing another compliment someone had said to him and how amazing it made him feel and Virgil would bite his tongue. The loop would continue on and on and the anxious boy knew he was eventually going to break. He couldn't deal with Roman telling him how amazing it felt when someone else complimented him and it wasn't jealousy that was causing this, okay maybe it was a tiny bit jealousy, but instead it was because Virgil himself said this compliments to his boyfriend everyday and Roman never reacted the same way to Virgil as he did when someone else complimented him instead he just thanked him or didn't say anything at all just taking the compliment and that's what hurt Virgil because was it not good enough coming from him? Why did he need the whole world to repeat the same thing that the person who loved him the most would tell him for nothing? Dating a celebrity was hard as it always involved some form of scandal, talks about affairs and Virgil quite commonly got threats on social media from fans who want to marry Roman but he could take all that but it was the fact Roman needed love from everyone else to fill his vanity that hurt him the most. Roman had always been vain and honestly Virgil never minded it because it meant he could always have a joke with Roman about it and joke about how his boyfriend was supposedly modest... no he'd never been bothered by Roman's vanity in the slightest. It was that he was starting to feel like he wasn't good enough for Roman if he didn't make him feel the way these fans did and he started to worry if he was just being used to keep the bed warm until Roman found someone else who made him feel that good. He knew it wasn't Roman's fault how he felt and he would never blame his boyfriend for it but his own anxieties would start eating away at him until he'd eventually burst.

The day he burst Virgil had been an emotional mess, he kept breaking down and crying over simple things that shouldn't matter or over nothing at all, luckily however Roman was at work so he wouldn't know all this. His boyfriend came in beaming, practically glowing as usual and he didn't even need to open his mouth before Virgil spoke, which surprised Roman because usually his boyfriend was cooking when he came in... he had previously suggested they take turn about cooking but Virgil had insisted that he do it because he enjoyed it, "Let me guess someone called you perfect, someone called you handsome, someone said they love you!" Roman looked at him in complete shock his mouth opening and closing like a fish. "Am I wrong?" Virgil had crossed his arms and was raising an eyebrow, inspecting Roman's face to see any hints of what had been the exact phrasing of the praise. "N-no you're not but why are you so worked up about it, are you jealous?" The last part was said in a more teasing manner but one look at Virgil's face and it was obvious he was not in the mood for jokes. "I'm not jealous, okay maybe I am a little but it is not the main factor, but I am hurt... I say these things to every single day Roman but it only seems to matter what it comes from someone else." Virgil wouldn't look at Roman, he knew if he did he would simply fall back in love and forgive him. "Virge that's not true... you know that I love it when you praise me and you say all those things to me... it's just nice to hear from someone else because you're my boyfriend you're supposed to say those things anyway," Roman tried to explain himself but he realised the last part was a mistake. "But you never react the same way... and... wait did you just say as your boyfriend I'm supposed to say those things? Sorry your highness I didn't realise it was my duty to worship you," Virgil was sharp to pick up on the last phrase used by Roman. "Please I love you and I need you," the actor practically begged but instead Virgil just turned his back to him, "No you don't..." He got up from the sofa and headed for the door, he needed some air and a few days away because he knew if he stayed he would ruin things between him and Roman for good and he didn't want that because he was deeply in love with the actor and he had been for years. "Fine! Go! You're right I don't need you! I have thousands of people ready to just fall at my feet!" Roman yelled as he heard the door slam. He then broke down... he hadn't meant that, of course he hadn't, he was in love with Virgil.

Virgil felt tears in his eyes as he heard what Roman yelled after him so he decided staying away from the actor was the best cause of action and stay away he did. He stayed away for about a month and he crashed at his friend Patton's house who was more than happy to have him as he could tell how broken his friend was. He watched interviews with Roman, which were being streamed quite a lot, but there was something different about the way the actor was acting, he seemed offish and closed but mostly hurt like someone had broken him and interviewer picked up on that, "What is it that's been making you act this way lately Mr. Prince?" Roman sighed heavily and cast his eyes downwards, "I made an awful mistake and I hurt the one I love... he was upset and rather than making sure he knew I loved him and reassured him I tried to reassure myself and I said something I shouldn't and he left... I don't know where he is now..." He sounded heartbroken. Virgil felt his heart pounding in his chest though because he realised from Roman's speech that he loves him. He pulled out his phone and sent Roman a text which read; 'I love you.' Which was all immediately read and replied to with the same message, 'I love you too.' Then a follow-up of, 'baby please come home.' The Roman in the interview smiled widely down at his phone and looked at the camera, "He's watching this now, Virgil I love you!" Patton came into the room, smiling, "You need to go back to him." The anxious boy only nodded and pocketed his phone, thanking Patton for taking care of him and off he went to his and Roman's house.

He knew where the spare key was, he had to use the spare one because he'd left his one in the house when he stormed out, so he unlocked the door and went in. Roman returned to his house looking somewhat hopeful and he went in speaking to himself, "I need to show Virgil how much I love him, god I can't wait to get him ba- VIRGIL?!" He screamed in surprise when he saw his boyfriend sitting on the sofa. "Hey Roman," He smiled shyly. Within a second Virgil was being engulfed in a massive hug by his boyfriend, "I missed you so much baby, I'm so sorry about everything." The anxious boy hugged him back, "It's okay I overreacted too I guess I was just worried you were using me and that I wasn't good enough for you... you deserve only the best y'know." Roman didn't even bothering answering that instead he just kissed his boyfriend lovingly begging him never to leave him again.
