Footsteps echo close behind Fear creeps slowly up my spine Trepidation alerts my senses Shadows dance along the fences Breathing heavy mine or theirs Heart rate spiking stand up hairs Rasping breath now joins my own Close enough to chill my bones Want to run but legs are lead Muscles soaked with fear and dread Only thoughts are of escape Why did I come out so late?
