"Cyan don't be stupid, you were great!" Lea insists, "So anyway, we are going to grab a bite and then she will be ready after that. Love you!" She gives him a quick kiss on the cheek and we leave the room. We are are on our way out looking for the boys when she - not so discretely - asks me, "So, you and my cousin seemed to hit it off, huh?"
"What do you mean..." I trail off, avoiding her gaze.
"Well, how do I put this - you seemed rather cozy walking this way and you were looking at each other all intensely earlier when I introduced you.." She trails off and wiggles her eyebrows suggestively, "Is there something I should know?"
I shake my head vigorously, "No! No way Cyan. I've been here two days I literally just met him earlier. I just happen to love blue-green eyes so I was just staring...." I trail off taking a deep breath to stop my ramble. "The 'intensiveness' was just awkwardness because he caught me staring at him last night..." I trail off as a thought pops into my head, "Wait, Lea, was your cousin there when I sang last night?" The dread in my voice is evident.
"Well, I can't be sure, but I don't think so. I'm pretty sure he arrived right after. Although why would it be so bad if he was?"
I sigh and just shrug, brushing it off.
She nods and lets it go changing the subject, "Well, he would have told me if he was there. So don't worry about it. However that look you guys had going on seemed like much more than just awkwardness.... I haven't seen him look at anyone like that since-"
I roll my eyes and cut her off, "Lea, I've told you already. No boys this summer. Zero. Also, guys like Luca, Ethan and Josh... they don't really like girls like me." I gesture towards myself my hands sweeping my body from head to toe. "But hey, maybe he can be my Australian kiss if i haven't found one by the end of summer," I joke.
"You're kidding. Right?" She looks at me with a blank expression. We spot the guys sitting on the furthest table from the stage, all the way to the right and start walking towards them. We drop the conversation as we approach the table. But not before she whispers "There is nothing wrong with you and they would be lucky. I'm pretty sure my cousin seems to notice that too."
I curse her mentally as a blush forms on my cheeks. I make sure to avoid eye contact with Luca as I sit down to his right on the round table, Lea securing the seat opposite me.
Thankfully, Ethan and Lea begin talking about the trip to the zip line tomorrow and the picnic. They start making plans and I agree and disagree when appropriate. When they start talking about the zip line I get butterflies in my stomach, already feeling excited for tomorrow.
"So, who is going tomorrow?" I interject as they talk about the preparations for the picnic.
"Well, we aren't too sure yet. For now there is ten of us going. Including us three." Lea gestures to herself, Ethan and I.
"You won't be going tomorrow Luca?" I lick my lips nervously and look at him for the first time since I sat down.
"Nah, he says he had no reason to go but I think he's just sc-" Ethan is cut off before he can finish. and I hear him grunt in pain. I raise my eyebrows in question and Lea laughs.
Luca looks my way, "Yeah, I'll be there. I just hadn't gotten round to letting Ethan know yet." Luca shrugs nonchalantly and answers my question directly.
"Oh and Josh will be there also." Lea interjects, her voice a little hesitant and she avoids looking at Luca as she says this. I feel Luca stiffen beside me and I look in-between the two of them.
"That's nice. The more the merrier right?" I try to sound confident but I don't think it comes across very convincingly.
Thankfully, we are interrupted by the waitress. We order our food and after that the subject is changed. We all make small talk about music, the beach, food. But we avoid the subject of tomorrow completely. I make a note to ask one of them, preferably Lea, about what had just happened. Josh seemed like a little bit of a womanizer but he had also been really nice. It made me wonder if my judgment towards him was completely off or of it was something personal between them.
