"You look better without it."
I love you, dad. Truly do.
But it hurts when you get mad at me for wearing it.
We live in a world where girls come into high school with low self-esteem, they constantly compare themselves to other better-looking girls, adults shove expectations down their throats, put in a learning environment where the school system objectifies our bodies and promotes rape culture, and girls have to decide what they want to do with their life before the age of 18.
I need any ounce of confidence I can get – and if that means feeling good when I wear makeup, I will wear it.
You call it a mask but I call it a cape.
I'm still a beautiful person with or without it.
I can do amazing things with makeup on. I'm more confident to approach strangers. I can strut down streets knowing my cheeks are glowing to the Gods, highlight blinding the haters – feeling good and looking put together in a world that tries to tear us apart.
