"Jackson?" Genevieve breathed, willing him to speak.
Her gaze didn't stray as she watched him intently, waiting for something as simple as a sign or a change in demeanor. She expected him to be hurt, even offended that she'd kept this from him. Maybe even angry.
Honestly, in all reality, she didn't know what to expect. Not until she sat, at that moment in time, waiting anxiously and growing more nervous with every second that passed.
One thing she couldn't help but notice was the silence. It was oddly quiet after she spilled her truth to him. She could tell, judging by his face, he still tried to process all the information. There was a lot considering, and still some he didn't know—hell, even some she couldn't quite recall . . .
She told him the gist of it, basically what she was too scared to tell her parents—or what they misinterpreted.
She explained how her relationship seemed to be on a downward spiral during the last few months. How she managed to mistakenly get tangled up with a 'previously sober' drug user in the first place—courtesy of a friend who set them up almost a year ago. How, at first, she was too naive to notice he was the one snatching her prescription pad which was ultimately why her parents had put her on leave, and it went on, and on, and on.
