Pain . . . it comes in all forms. A small twinge. A bit of soreness. The random aches. We live with pain every day, but, past the normality of it all, there's the kind you can't ignore. A level of pain so great that it blocks out everything else, makes the rest of the world fade away until all we can think about is how much we hurt.

It's at the forefront of our minds. It dominates our thoughts. It's all we can focus on, especially if it's a searing pain. One that causes pure agony, not only for the body but the mind as well. It's the kind of suffering that blossoms through every nerve ending, growing and expanding until the muscles and tissue feel used, dead, and left with no hope for healing.

It's enough to drive a person over sanity's edge. They'd do anything to make it stop. It can, and will, drive you mad . . . taking into consideration that the mind doesn't respond well to pain. It's unnatural, uncomfortable, and causes as much strain mentally as it does physically.

It's a double-edged sword, and it comes in all forms . . .

We don't have a say in how it manifests itself. However, how we manage our pain, well, that one's up to us. We anesthetize. Ride it out. Embrace it. Ignore it. However, for some of us, the best way to manage our pain is to just push through it.
