The Gift

I neatly eat the dinner in front of me and it tastes even more incredible than they ever were to me as a human. I could see why Lord Motte still chooses to eat regular food. I wouldn't pass this level of enjoyment up either.

"So, what is your first name?" I say casually. "I would hate to keep calling you by your title."

"Maybe I like my title." He replies smartly to which I roll my eyes.

He chuckles and takes his last bite before answering. "Vincent."

I raise my eyebrows, secretly pleased. The name suited him well with his black hair and pale complexion. He had a very unique face, very angular and pointed. I could imagine a prior version of me insanely attracted to him...

Again, bringing up the question as to why I would leave.

I can't remember for the life of me.

"I...like it." I carefully keep my tone neutral, but he smirks happily anyways.

"Good. And I must say I do fancy Cynthia as well." He says smoothly, sitting back in his chair.

"Good, because I am not changing my name to Isabella."

"I wouldn't want you to." He reassures without a moment's pause.

I nod a silent thank you and stand. "I would like to wash up now, maybe see to my room and have some wind down time?"

He nods, clearly disappointed all I asked was his name. I wouldn't know what else to ask him without prying, and he already knows more than enough about my past. "Up the stairs, two doors down on your left is where you can stay."

I nod and turn, only to have him burst out of his seat, anxious energy buzzing through the air. "Are you staying, Cynthia?"

I inhale sharply and turn back slowly. "I...suppose I will be, at least for now."

"Ah...good." He nods, the expression on his face absolutely adorable.

I nearly blush and rush to my room before I do, throwing myself on the bed instantly.

I stare up at the blank, white ceiling, surrounded by quite the gallant chandelier before laughing to myself.

What have I gotten myself into? My life has taken a complete turn upside down.

I bite my lip and close my eyes. I don't fall asleep right away, but as my thoughts drift gently through my mind, the hours pass by peacefully and seamlessly.

A long while later I jump into the connected bathroom and shower. It was clear immediately that Vincent took care when he chose every single product he included in the bathroom. Coconut oil, moisturizers, expensive shampoos and conditioners, a high class hair dryer and hair curlers. There were things in here I hadn't even bothered to use since moving out. Jumping from hotel to hotel on the road didn't exactly include much room or time to include anything unnecessary in my cleanliness routine. I didn't exactly have bubble baths and rub argan oil into my hair.

But now I can.

Scanning through everything in a daze, I finally decide on a regular shower. I have plenty of time to explore everything. I do, however, style my hair as nicely as I can with the curler. I haven't seen myself with curly hair in years...likely not since high school graduation...and I must say I am impressed.

I do blush at myself in the mirror now, and don't bother wondering why I was so happy to doll myself up for Vincent's presence.

He will be happy to know I am utilizing what he provided for me.

I decide to go down and talk with him more...but am disappointed to see that he has left. I can't really blame him now that he has the newfound freedom to leave, but my heart can't help but sink.

I walk around the dinning room, and see a small note in front of where I sat earlier. I unfold it impatiently and read the words carefully.

"Cynthia, darling, I have left to attain a particular gift for you. Wait for me to return just before the sun rises in your room and I will come knocking.
I will see you soon.
Don't be too impatient."

Your dearest, Vincent.

My heart flutters for a second and I curse myself for evolving so quickly into such a mushy ditz.

Fine, I will wait in my room.

As I am mounting the stairwell back to where I came I could see that the sun was already rising. I quickly fly in the bedroom and close the door securely. I stand on the other side waiting, nearly tapping my foot, just has he likely expected me to be.

"I told you to not be too impatient." His smooth voice appears out of nowhere on the other side. He knocks for the heck of it while I stand still.

What could he possibly buy for me?

Why would he want me to wait in the bedroom?

"C-come in." I stutter.

"The door is locked." He is barely containing his soft laughter as he jiggles the door handle.

"Oh, I didn't even realize I locked it." I turn the lock and open the door for him myself.

He doesn't speak at first and I gasp once I realize his stunned reaction was due to my fancy appearance. I cover my face with my hands. "I was just bored and I saw everything you had ready for me! I couldn't help but be tempted."

He only smiles, still looking in a state if what seemed to be awe.

I growl to myself. "I am not usually like this."

"Like what?" He muses in amusement.

"Nervous and ditsy. I am not usually like those other girls."

"I know, so you're excused." He half smiles and walks in, appearing to be holding nothing.

I look to him inquisitively, waiting for his hesitant answer. "I wanted to show you...or at least give you a token of what your reappearance means to me, even if you do choose to leave eventually or never grow to love me."

I wring my hands together. "You didn't have to do that."

"I know you're not one for material objects." He shrugs. "But I am when it comes to proving that I won't compare you to any other girl that walks in that door." He pulls out a small box from his pocket and pulls back the lid, revealing a small ring with a ruby stone.

"I won't even compare you to Isabella." He says softly, gesturing for me to take the box from him. "I want you to take this from me, and when you hopefully decide to be mine, stay by my side through every adventure you have now made possible...I want you to wear it."

"I...put it on when I accept you?" I whisper in awe.

He nods. "Or, as I would like to see it, you put it on when you love me."
