Testing the limits

chapter 10

        Scared

       Worriedness past through me. I didn't know what to expect. I leaped out from behind the couch leaving chuck there. I bound to the stairs and looked over Ashlynn.

"Help............"

Her head fell as her lips sealed the words 'ME'. Chuck slipt out and grabbed my arm. We ran upstairs as the 'Ghost' Crept closer. We bounded into a closet. The thing, or whatever it was walked or floated, whatever , right past us.

It turned into a bedroom and we booked it.

We ran straight for the front door..Hayes was already there.

Holding that knob.....in his hand.

Standing in the middle of the room.

"You can never leave, you must stay with me"

He said as his head nailed back and his face turned to this sort of evil skeleton figure.

I fainted.

I woke up in bed. Alone.

Ashlynn, Hayes, and Chuck were sitting at the table playing cards downstairs.

Wha.....What??  I asked as the room was becoming blurry.

"You fainted, remember?", Hayes said.

No, I don't, I muttered. The last thing I remember was....

Never mind....

I sat down and joined them.

"So", Hayes started with a smirk," did ya dream about meh?", he asked.

You wish, I said laughing at him.

I got up and grabbed a snack..Which was just a pack of peanut butter crackers.

It was around 12:30 in the afternoon. I missed breakfast.

We played cards for a while until the power came back on.

The storm had subsided but our street was still flooded.

We don't get rain, but when we do, we get it for days.

It was only Tuesday and I had Work Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

My days were messed up but I didn't complain.

.......

Today is Thursday. Ashlynn And Hayes left early and I had to be to work by 1.

I got ready and kissed Chuck goodbye.

He grabbed my waist and kissed my forehead.

I spun around and he laid his head on my shoulder.

"So what are we doing tonight?," he asked. I could tell he was smirking.

What do u want to do, I said playfully.

"Well, I'll just have to leave it to you to decide," he said.

I left with that still blushing and laughing a little.

I got into my car and drove to the vet.

I didn't have a lot of appointments today.

Just 3 dogs, 2 cats and any emergencies that come up. I just needed to check up on them. I had class at night but on the opposite days of work.

I hurried through my day and rushed home.

Chuck wasn't home yet. He is goes to school for architecture. He only needs about another year until is masters degree.

He already has a job, but he gets the month off. I decided to clean the house.

I walked upstairs and rummaged through the supply closet. I went to grab a mop when I felt it. My stomach ached. and I learned over in pain.

I stumbled down the stairs clawing at the railing. I grabbed the phone.

Chuck's pov

I was on my way to a drawing class when my phone went off.

I darted to class to tell my teacher ) Mr. Halax (     (Idk)

That I'd be missing class. for a hospital run.

I bolted to my car and drove home as fast as I could.

I was well over the speed limit but I didn't care. I got home and raced to the house.

I ran to Courtney and grabbed her hand. I pulled her up off the couch and helped her to the car.

We were both rushing and I was really nervous. I didn't know what to do.

I obviously knew she was in pain, but how could I help.

"Drive you idiot", she said after about 4 minutes of silence.

I jammed the gas pedal all the way down and my blue Mercedes and the engine roared to life as I started the car. I turned around and gased it.

When we arrived at the hospital I helped her up and we sort of did a skipping walking motion to the doors..

The lady behind the counter called something over the radio and in moments they had Courtney sitting in a wheel chair up to a room.

we wanted it to be a secret. so we don't know If it's a boy or a girl.

I walked into the room and sat next to Courtney. She held her hand out and I jumped up and grabbed it. The doctor was staring at her telling her what to do. I stood there and I knelt in pain.

"Courtney", I said calmly.

"Courtney", I said a little louder over her screaming.

I fell back in pain.

"Courtney", I said as the doctor held out a crying baby.

"Courtney", I yelled as everything went back.

'Oh', she said as she laughed. She dropped my hand and I fell backwards on my back.

I grabbed my hand as my eyes slid shut.

The last words:

the doctor: Congratulations on a/ "Sorry",  Courtney cut in as I fell into a state of unconsciousness.
