third phone call.

"lane like the street, lane."

"aspen, god, come home."

"i saw my mom today."

"you saw your mom?"

"i did."

"and?"

"she told me to stop coming 'round at two in the morning."

"you've been there before?"

"obviously."

"are you drunk?"

"i may have had some of her scotch."

"you hate scotch."

"i like vodka."

"i know."

"i hate when you drink scotch. it tastes gross when you kiss me."

"i know."

"i mean not that gross, if i was kissing you, obviously."

"aspen, what else happened with your mom?"

"did i ever tell you she's got a boyfriend now?"

"no."

"she does! and he's got her taking her pills everyday!"

"that's good."

"i suppose. i mean, she hates me less when she takes her pills, so yes, it's good."

"sweetheart."

"my mom said she'd like it a real lot if she could meet you."

"did she now?"

"yes sir, she did. and i told her i wasn't letting my sunshine anywhere near the black-hole of hatred that is her."

"oh my god."

"but, that's when i first saw her, and was not in a good mood with her, of course!"

"really?"

"yup! but we're kinda friends now!"

"are you now?"

"mhm! she's a sweetie and she said she only sometimes hates me a bit for killing her daughter!"

"..."

"but then i told her about forrest, and wowie she cried a lot."

"aspen honey."

"laney baby."

"you're awfully drunk aren't you?"

"well... i'm a bit drunker than i thought i was."

"sweetheart, you need to get home, it's late and you shouldn't be out right now."

"conner's with me."

"what?"

"whoopsies, and cathy jay too!"

"who?"

"oops! lane, conner's calling me over! i have to go!"
