Chapter Seven: What Did You Do Brother?

Nie Tai yawned softly behind her hand. It was time to return to Shen Xiu's 'class.' Nie Tai, being the good student she was, tried to absorb some of the teachings everyday; however, the 'teachings' were Shen Xiu tearing down commoners simply because she could. Nie Li, Du Ze, and Lu Piao all looked extremely tired. Du Ze was even nodding off.

Everyone else in the class looked well-rested; they were all chatting in groups before class officially began. Ye Ziyun was laughing among her friend group; it was always surprising to see Ye Ziyun doing this when knowing of her status: daughter of the City Lord and granddaughter of the Legend Rank Demon Spiritualist. Shen Yue, on the other hand, remained in a corner, away from all others, especially the commoners.

"With how the nobles avoid the commoners, one would think they were afraid of them. Of course, they themselves would never admit this." Nie Tai thought when watching the interactions of the class.

"Nie Tai, what comes next?" Du Ze asked, snapping the girl out of the trance she was in.

"Hmm. Why ruin life's surprises?" She said, questioning him with a mischievous smirk. Du Ze rolled his eyes and returned to talking with Lu Piao.

"Say, Xiao Tai, where did you go last night?" asked Nie Li.

"I could ask you the same thing, Xiao Li." replied Nie Tai snarkily.

"Hahaha, I suppose I could tell you later!" exclaimed her brother. He looked around the classroom, but his eyes settled on Ye Ziyun, who was speaking with her friends.

There were very few secrets between Nie Tai and Nie Li. In the past life, the only people they could rely were themselves. This sort of bond cannot simply disappear after reincarnating. As such, Du Ze and Lu Piao could only look on with curiosity at the twins' actions.

Their curious looks, however, quickly filled with horror when watching Xiao Ning'er approach Nie Li. The whole class was watching, and didn't notice Chen Lijian standing in the doorway. He almost seemed nervous, but what kind of person can make Chen Lijian nervous?

Nie Tai saw him and smiled? The girls in the class immediately glared at her. The boys, on the other hand, didn't notice because they were too busy watching Xiao Ning'er, their goddess, give Nie Li breakfast.

"Hell has frozen over. The apocalypse is upon us." murmured a noble boy.

The girls watched in envy as Nie Tai got up and walked over to Chen Lijian. Just who was Chen Lijian? He was part of a Major Family, extremely talented, and very, very handsome.

"Hello, I didn't think we would meet again so soon." greeted Nie Tai. She was surprised to see him, after all, why would he come looking for her?

"Uh, yes. It is nice to see you again." He replied. Smiling, the two continued to talk, much to the dismay of the boys and girls in the class. While Nie Tai wasn't a stunning beauty like Xiao Ning'er or graceful like Ye Ziyun, she was not average. If Xiao Ning'er and Ye Ziyun weren't in this class, Nie Tai would easily be the prettiest.

Nie Li would have glared at Chen Lijian, if not for Xiao Ning'er giving him food, so he didn't notice. Du Ze, however, watched in horror and fascination as Nie Tai and Chen Lijian laughed, seemingly from a joke Nie Tai made.

Chen Lijian was ecstatic. He couldn't believe that she acted the same way whether or not people were around. He felt that he could count on her in the future. There were so many in his life that only talked to him for their own gain; Nie Tai's attitude was unbelievably refreshing.

The truth is, that Nie Tai simply didn't care of the opinions of her classmates. In the end, which of them will be important enough for their opinions to matter? In the past life, she climbed to the highest pinnacle only to fall back to the bottom. That entire experience changed her forever; her entire family was ripped to shreds by demon beasts, her skin was marred with real and emotional scars, her soul was torn apart only to reform. She had watched those she loved die simply because she did not have talent. As if talent can determine one's will, one's life, one's destiny. Truthfully, Nie Tai despises the word talent. It fills her with disgust. The only thing that determines one's future is their ability to cope with deadly circumstances, unyielding circumstances,  soul-shattering circumstances. Her mindset is not something the simple people of Glory City can understand or even come close to achieving, for they simply do not have the qualifications to do so.

"Oi! Xiao Tai! Come up here and try this!" yelled Nie Li.

Nie Tai immediately reddened at her brother's yelling. She glared at him thinking, "You only want me to stop talking! You don't see me screaming at you, you uncultured piece work!"

"Haha! Go, I'll talk to you later. It was nice seeing you again so soon." laughed Chen Lijian. He thought the interactions between the two were simply hilarious. It was obvious that the boy who called her out was her brother. With how alike they looked, they couldn't be anything else!

"Hmm, thank you. I hope you excuse my impolite brother. He is simply overprotective." said Nie Tai. She turned and walked away.

"I would be protective of you too. After all, you are pretty amazing." thought Chen Lijian as he too turned to leave.

Nie Tai didn't even notice the glares of the girls in her class as she walked up to her brother.

"Here." said Nie Li as he shoved a piece of food in her mouth when she got up there.

"Hmm, it's good! I would add a bit more sugar in the rice; after all, the best part of this is its sweetness." said Nie Tai after swallowing the food.

"I never thought of that. Thank you." replied Xiao Ning'er. She was surprised that Nie Tai could make such an insight.

"Eh, and you say I'm rude, Xiao Tai." mumbled Nie Li.

"What? I thought it was really good. It surprised me. If it wasn't for my experiments, I never would have been able to think of how to improve it!" said Nie Tai indignantly.

"Experiments?" thought several people in the class.

Xiao Ning'er smiled and interrupted the squabbling of the twins, "It's okay. I love to learn new things. Thank you for sharing this with me. Perhaps we could cook together in the future?"

"Of course! I would love to." said Nie Tai. She was happy that Xiao Ning'er wanted to be her friend. Wait. Xiao Ning'er wanted to be her friend?

"Xiao Li, what did you do?" Nie Tai immediately asked her brother, who had an innocent look on his face.
