Chapter 2

After lunch, we headed back inside for contemporary. I think it went fairly well considering the guy next to me had no idea what he was doing and knocked me over about six times. This same guy ended up being my partner for Pas de Deux. Of course, that would be my luck.

“I’m Chase, by the way,” he said as we got into our places.

I nodded. “Karoline.”

He was actually a really good partner considering how he did in contemporary. He was strong and able to do all the lifts Miss Raine wanted us to do, which was nice since I really didn’t want to fail at this class because of a lousy partner.

Jazz was the last class we did. Time seemed to speed by and before I knew it, the first day of auditions were over. I followed Shelby and Katy out of the studio and back to the dressing rooms, where we quickly changed back into street clothes and got out of there. Let’s just say there were a couple of catty girls in there we wanted to avoid at all costs.

“How do y’all feel?” Shelby asked, letting her black curls loose from the pun they had been confined in.

“Sore!” I groaned.

Katy chuckled. “No duh, Sherlock. She meant how do we feel we did for first day auditions.”

“Oh.” I pursed my lips in thought. “I feel pretty confident.”

“LOOK OUT!” A familiar Irish voice yelled.

I turned around just in time to see Niall racing toward me on a skateboard, but my reaction was too slow. Before I could move he crashed into me, flying off his board and knocking me to the ground. This time he landed on top of me though.

“We’ve got to stop meeting this way,” he chuckled.

I wanted to snap back at him with a sarcastic remark, but before I could speak I heard more wheels gliding across the concrete and four other male voice calling out to Niall.

“Whoa!” The curly haired boy said as he skidded to a stop by my head.

“Can you get off of me?” I asked Niall, returning my attention to the blonde boy. I realized his face was closer than I thought when I turned my head and all I could focus one was his shockingly bright blue eyes.

“Hmm, I think I’m fine right here.” He said, winking at me.

I rolled my eyes and pushed my hands against his chest, trying to push him away. “Get off, ya weirdo.”

“Fine, fine.” Niall stood up, grabbing my hand and yanking me to my feet as well.

The rest of his posse showed up then, all laughing and joking around.

“Who’s your friend Niall?” The black-haired boy asked, smiling at me.

I waved at the group, not really paying them any attention while I gathered up all of my shoes that had flown out of my dance bag when Niall knocked me over. “I’m Karoline.”

He nodded at me. “Nice to meet you, I’m Zayn.”

The curly haired on that had almost ran me over smirked at Shelby, causing a blush to form on her cheeks. “Hey there, I’m Harry.”

Shel turned even more red when she tried to respond. “H-hi.. I’m.. I’m…”

Katy quickly threw her arm around Shelby’s shoulder and took over the situation. “Her name’s Shelby. She’s just a bit shy.”

Shelby looked down at the ground, biting her lip.

The boy in the striped shirt popped up in front of Katy and hugged her. “Hi, I’m Louis!”

Katy stood there in shock for a moment before returning his hug. “Nice to meet you. I’m Katy.”

“And I’m Liam.” The boy in the plaid shirt said, waving at us. “Boys, we better get going.”

They all hopped back on their skateboards and skated away without so much as a goodbye. I gaped at the spot where they had just stood.

“What the heck just happened?” Katy wondered.

I glanced behind me at Shelby who was still staring at the ground with a blush on her cheeks and gnawing on her lip. I smirked at her. “I think Shel just met the love of her life.”

Her head shot up and she shoved my shoulder lightly. “Shut up! Whatever…”

Katy joined in. “Ooh, I think you’re right, Karo. She’s totally into him.”

“Guys!” Shelby’s jaw dropped at us as she rolled her eyes.

“Admit it, you thought he was hot.” I teased, wiggling my eyebrows at her.

A smile tugged at her lips. “That’s besides the point.”

Katy and I looked at each other before cracking up. Who knew Shelby would admit to it that easily?

The rest of the week passed with pretty much the same flow. Katy and Shelby loosened up a bit in hip hop and started doing better, which I was very proud of. It was over soon and we were back in our neighborhood, just waiting to get our acceptance of rejection letter.

Two weeks passed before we got anything. We met up at Katy’s house to open our letters at the same time.

“Ready?” Katy asked holding up her letter.

“Set?” Shelby slipped her finger under the edge of her envelope.

“Go!” I shouted, snatching open my letter.

A couple of seconds passed before we were all yelling, “I GOT IN!”

This was it. The beginning of our dreams and our futures. And the best day of our lives.
