Chapter 2

The Secret Admirer

I stared at Clark with an alarm expression as he mirrored it as well. Everybody rushed outside to see what had happened.

"Come on," he said worried. He grabbed my hand and began pulling me towards the back yard. There was a stampede of teenagers all rushing and pushing their way outside. Once outside, I saw in the distance a crowd of kids huddled in tight circle around a tree. More and more kids began to circle around trying to see what had caused the terrifying scream.

Pushing our way through the knots of teenagers, I finally caught a glimpse of girl. She lay sprawled in her stomach, her arms flung out above her head.

Her long brown hair spilled over the dark green lawn.

Why is she so still? I thought. Kristen pushed through the crowd to help the girl. Kristen along with her boyfriend, Justin, slowly turned over the girl face up.

Justin checked if she was still breathing.

Nobody moved. Silence hung heavily over the crowd. Suddenly the girl screamed a high pitch deafening noise, I covered my ears.

"What's wrong with her!" I yelled at Kristen. Kristen tried to calm her down. The yelling only lasted about five second or so.

"What's wrong?!" Kristen yelled at the girl who was gasping for air. Then girl began sobbing as she grabbed Kristen by the shoulder.

Through mumbles and huffing she replied. Kristen listened through a sad face. I couldn't make out any words, but I understood it was something very tragic to her.

"She's all right," Justin called. "Come on. Get your coats. It's already late."

Everybody dispersed as they headed inside the mansion. From afar I saw cars starting. I couldn't move.

"Are you alright?" I heard Clark ask me. I looked up and him asking myself the same question.

"Y-yes," I stammered.

"Then why are you shaking? Are you cold?" I hadn't noticed I was shaking. Clark yanked his sweater and wrapped it around my shoulders.

"Thanks," I sighed heavy. I took a few deep breaths trying to clam myself. I didn't understand why was I so shaky?

I spotted Sami waiting outside the mansion.

She came running towards us with a worried expression. "Did you see what happened?!"

"That was totally weird," Clark said as he scratched the back of his head confused. Sami looked at me with concern eyes.

"What's wrong with you?" Sami asked.

"Nothing, just cold," I told her. She didn't believe me.

"Well, I got to go," Clark said sadly. I quickly forgot the problem about the girl.

Damn, I didn't tell Clark what I feel about him, I realized. It's now or never!

As Clark began to slide off his arm around my shoulders I grabbed his collar shirt and crushed his lips to mine.

I could feel Clark was shocked. It took him two whole second to figure out what was happening. He grabbed the side of my face kissing me gently.

I was breathing hard when he finally pulled away. My heart skipped a beat. "Do you want to be my girlfriend?"

I smiled back at him. "Yes."

I pulled his face to mine. I kissed him again, but it didn't last long because I heard someone clear their throat. I pulled away and smiled at Clark as he returned me the smile.

"See you on Monday," he whispered giving a quick peak on the cheek. I saw him walking away from me.

I turned to face Sami.

"Clark and Nikki sitting on a tree," she chanted, snickering. "K-i-s-s-i-n-g."

"Stop it," I whined blushing. I gave her a gentle shove. Suddenly I felt something fall from my shoulders. I picked it up trying to see what it was. I realized I still had Clark's sweater. My eyes searched for him through leaving kids, but I couldn't find him.

Oh well, I thought. I can always stay with my boyfriend's sweater. I gripped it tight in my chest and smelled his sweet cologne. I spun around and went towards Sami, as we headed towards her car to go home.

"Did you see what happened to the girl?" I asked remembering about the situation.

"Nope," she said. "I was talking to some dude when I heard the girl scream like that."

"I wonder what happened to her. Maybe family problems," I suggested. I dropped down in the front seat as Sami turn on the engine. We drove in silence

listening to music in the radio. I remembered my brother's cell phone. I search down the passenger seat and found my purse. I yanked out and pulled out the phone, then dialed home.

On the third ring my brother answered. "Hello?"

"Aaron? Well I'm coming home soon it wouldn't be long."

"Yeah, okay." I said goodbye and hung up. Sami pulled over close to my house and said good-bye.

Aaron was outside sitting on the porch. "Hey."

"I thought you were inside," I said confused.

"Yeah, I was, but it got to stuffy in there so I came out here," he said. He frowned. "Whose sweater's is that?" He pointed at Clark's sweater.

"Oh, it my new boyfriend's sweater," I said looking down on at the sweater.

"New boyfriend?" He asked as if he never heard the word before.

"Yeah," I said nervous. I looked up at his face. He had his lips in a straight line looking at the sweater as if he were mad.

"Is something wrong?"

"No, I just remembered something," he said curtly. He didn't glance at me or the sweater and went inside the house looking mad. I didn't understand anything. Big brothers...

I shook my head and went inside.

After brushing my teeth and taking another shower I went to bed. I woke up in the middle of the night. I couldn't sleep. My mind kept wondering about what had happened at Kristen's birthday. I turned my head around and looked at the watch which read 4:05am.

I climbed out of my bed and went towards my closet. I pulled out Clark's sweater and smelled it again. It smelled so clean and fresh.

I decided to try it on to see how big it was. I slipped both arms inside and zipped it all the way up. So soft, I thought. Clark so has good taste of clothes I'll give him credit for that.

Without knowing it, I slipped my hand into the right pocket and felt something.

"Huh?" I took out a tiny black envelop and gasped out loud. I dropped the envelope and took a step back.

"No, it can't be," my voice shook with horror. No, I thought it was over, I thought as fear crept slowly up my spine.

I wanted to wake up in my own bed, far away from this returning nightmare.

But, there I stood, my body trembled. Afraid to breathe, afraid to make a sound, I gazed at the black small envelope.

I took a deep breath to stop my trembling body and slowly walked towards it. My deadly secret admirer...
