Following statements concerning the Fair Trade Commission and unfair contracts by Congresswoman Jae Yoon Kyung, rumors stated at least 9 members of Wanna One signed contracts with subsidiaries that were connected to CJ E&M. There was speculation that along with Kang Danieland Yoon Ji Sung, who are signed with CJ E&M subsidiary MMO Entertainment, 7 other Wanna One members were signed to companies owned at least 50% by CJ E&M.

Many found the rumors problematic as it would mean the 'Produce 101' competitors chosen to be a part of Wanna One were favored for being under the CJ E&M umbrella. However, CJ E&M stated, "It's true Kang Daniel and Yoon Ji Sung are trainees under a subsidiary. However, the rest of the members are not under labels that CJ E&M owns stock in."

There were also allegations that CJ E&M treated their contracts with the 'Produce 101' trainees as exclusive contracts. However, reports say CJ E&M revised clauses in the contracts according to the Fair Trade Commission and held meetings with the trainees' respective agencies multiple times earlier this year.
