I like the idea of this word being used to describe the atmosphere of a room. The fact that this word reminds me of 'ponder' makes me imagine an atmosphere so dull and grim that you're forced to think about things you'd rather not think about. I'm thinking of the idea that people are afraid to be bored because they're hiding from their thoughts.
