Tori Phoenix was abducted by space pirates at a young age and later rescued by her adoptive brother Rocket.
Peter Quill was abducted by Yondu Udonta and grew up as a Ravager.
Both are from Terra, and maybe both of them need each other.

All of them had been captured and taken Nova Headquarters. Corpsmen Dey was presenting them to Denarian Saal. The green woman was up first,
"Gamora. Surgically modified and trained as a living weapon. The adopted daughter of the Mad Titan, Thanos. Recently, Thanos lent her and her sister Nebula out to Ronan, which leads us to believe that Thanos and Ronan are working together" After Gamora, it was Rocket's turn.
"Subject 89P13. Calls itself Rocket. The result of illegal genetic and cybernetic experiments on a lower life form" Now it was time for Groot.
"What the hell?" Saal said
"They call it Groot. A humanoid plant that's been traveling recently as 89P13's personal house plant slash muscle" Finally, it was Tori's turn.
"Tori Phoenix. Born on Terra but was abducted by space pirates at a young age. She was rescued by 89P13, and has been travelling with him ever since. He even adopted her as his younger sister" Last, but certainly not least, it was the man.
"Peter Jason Quill, from Terra. Raised from youth by a band of mercenaries called the Ravagers, led by Yondu Udonta" Peter wound up his middle finger. "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know how this machine worked" Tori couldn't help but giggle when she heard that. Peter looked in her direction and winked at her.
"What a bunch of a-holes. Transport all five to the Kyln" Saal said

The five of them were sent to the Kyln. They were all hand cuffed in a line by the order of Gamora, Rocket, Tori, Peter and Groot. They were being led by one of the security guards while Rocket was bantering.
": I guess most of Nova Corps wanna uphold the laws, but these ones here, they're corrupt and cruel. But, hey, that's not my problem. I ain't gonna be here long. Tor and myself have escaped twenty-two prisons, this one's no different. You're lucky the broad showed up, because otherwise, me , Tori and Groot would be collecting that bounty right now, and you'd be getting drawn and quartered by Yondu and those Ravagers"
"I've had a lot of folks try to kill me over the years. I ain't about to be brought down by a tree, a gorgeous woman and a talking raccoon" Peter said.
"What's a raccoon?" Rocket asked
""What's a raccoon?" It's what you are, stupid" Peter said. Tori turned to look at Peter, and scowled.
"Don't call my brother stupid" she said before looking forward again. Peter smirked at her. He thought she looked cute when she was mad.
"Ain't no thing like me, except me" Rocket said.
"So, this orb has a real shiny blue suitcase, Ark of the Covenant, Maltese Falcon sort of vibe. What is it?" Peter asked.
"I am Groot"
"So what? What's the orb?" Peter asked
" I have no words for an honorless thief" Gamora said
"Look who's talking. You're the lackey of a genocidal maniac" Tori said. Gamora looked back at Tori.
"Yeah, my sis and I know who you are. Anyone who's anyone knows who you are" Rocket said
"Yeah, we know who you are" Peter turned to Groot and asked, "Who is she?"
"I am Groot"
"Yeah, you said that"
"I wasn't retrieving the orb for Ronan, I was betraying him. I had an agreement to sell it to a third party" Gamora explained.
"I am Groot"
"Well, that's just as fascinating as the first eighty-nine times you told me that. What is wrong with Giving Tree, here?" Peter asked
"Well, he don't know talking good like me and you. So his vocabulistics is limited to "l" and "am" and "Groot." Exclusively in that order" Rocket said
"Only Rocket and I can understand what Groot is saying" Tori added.
"Well I tell you what, that's gonna wear real thin, real fast. If I..." Peter's attention turned to the blue guard listening to his walkman. Tori recognized the song as Hooked On A Feeling by Blue Swede. She looked at the blue guard as well and noticed that he was listening to her walkman as well. She could heard the distinct tune of Dancing Queen playing.
"Hey, put that away!" Tori and Peter said as they both stepped forward. Both of them looked at each other in surprise, but soon put their attention back on the blue guard.
"You son of a... Hey! Listen to me, you big blue bastard" Peter said.
"Put those headphones down. Those are ours, those belong to impound" Tori said
That tape and that player is mine!" they said at the same time. However, they also got stunned at the same time.
"Hooked On A Feeling, Blue Swede, 1973" Peter said.
"Dancing Queen, ABBA, 1976" Tori said.
"That song belongs to me!" they said in sync before being stunned again.

They were stripped to their underwear and cleansed in some orange liquid. After Tori was cleansed, she was shoved in a room and handed her prison gear. She didn't even start dressing in it yet when Peter was shoved in the room. Tori couldn't help but stare at him. He noticed her stare, and flashed her a grin, before doing the same to her. Someone clearing their throat made them look away from each other.
"Quill, you better stop staring at my sister right now, or you'll regret it"

As soon as they entered the main area of the prison, a lot of the prisoners started screaming at Gamora.
"It's like I said, she's got a rep. A lot of prisoners here have lost their families to Ronan and his goons. She'll last a day, tops" Rocket said
"The guards will protect her, right?" Peter asked
"They're here to stop us from getting out. They don't care what we do to each other inside" Tori said
"Whatever nightmares the future holds, are dreams compared to what's behind me" Gamora said. Tori glanced over at Gamora. She'd be lying if she said she wasn't feeling bad for Gamora. Tori wasn't watching where she was going and walked into a blue alien. He was staring at her in a predatory way.
"You've got to be kidding me" she muttered.
"Check out the new meat" the alien started stroking her face but Tori didn't seem fazed by it. There was one good reason for that. "Check out the new meat. I'm gonna slather you up in Gunavian jelly, and go to town"
"I wouldn't say that if I were you" Tori said just as Groot inserted his trunk in the alien's nose. He lifted the alien off of the ground.
"Let's make something clear. This here is my sister! I don't want to see anyone lay a hand on her! You wanna get to her, you go through us! Or, more accurately, we go through you" Rocket warned. Groot let go of the blue alien, who fell to the ground clutching his nose.
"You've all been warned" Tori said, before going off with Groot and Rocket.
