Burn it to the Ground

The impact left me dizzy and I could barely muster enough might to stand on my legs, everything was spinning and I was groaning. There was nothing that was going to stop my mind from spinning so naturally, I ordered more of the damned humans to go after Kai. His body was moving around slithering trying to regain composure. We were knocked off, but neither of us were willing to give up at this point.

Hissing in the air and warmth surrounding the area signaled me that he was calling down another wave of lightning. I flared my nostrils and closed my eyes and breathed in, and found myself thanking the heavens for the rubble as I clawed and dug my way under it. Kai was hissing and screeching, they were on him like ants and my poison was taking its effect on him. His elongated body would help him last a lot longer than others, but he was still going to feel pain beyond belief.

The rough and jagged concrete and metal building buildings were heavy, even for me and I was struggling to move some of them. Time was running out, the air was sparking and the hit was going to do some real damage to me if I did not find cover. Zzps and snaps kept sounding in my ear and the air was now way too warm. It was nowhere near the same heat you would get from fire but the crackling left me with a huge unease. I was not going to make it.

The exact moment I thought that, was the exact moment I was hit.
My screeching roar echoed in the electric filled air just when Kai's did. I turned around hurt and full of rage to see his eye had stabbed so many it times it looked like a butchered piece of meat. I pounced on him enclosed my jagged teeth around his snout keeping it shut and released a direct hit to him with my venom. He was done for. Writhing and squirming, screaming in pain as bolts of excruciating light went everywhere until he finally crumpled and his body went limp. Without his conciousness to fight off my control on his body, I forced him back into his human form and roared in triumph. Sunrise was on it's way however and I needed to find shelter.

My body was heavy and I had to fight my want to just lay down. Grabbing onto Kai's damaged form I headed into the forest by flight and groaned. There was no way of knowing if I were headed in the right direction. I just had to keep going. . . I had to. . . The sun was almost up. The rays were burning through my wings.

I crashed into the trees, and morphed back. My skin was boiling. I was hissing and crying, my eyes were wet with blood tears  until I finally gave up and set Kai's body against a tree and started to dig. I dug just enough to hide my body. To keep the sun off of me. . . And slept.

****

"ONYX!!!" Crescent's voice was echoing through the trees, but I couldn't move. I was out of energy still. My body was full of lead and I was hungry, Kai seemed to be still passed out, it was past sunset, so everything was dark once again. Sounds of crickets, owls, and other critters made themselves known. I could hear Crescent move closer through the crunching of leaves. My mouth and everything was still and unmoving. I couldn't do anything and I ended up fading out of conciousness. . .

Bleak and bleary. . . Foggy  . . . Spinning. . . What was going on??? "Onyx, love," Nemesio's voice echoed in my mind, "I'm here. . ." He was still talking but I couldn't understand anymore. I should've been dead. The dirt wasn't a good enough defense and I know it. Every so often I heard someone hit someone else and hissing and snarls. I wanted blood. . . Why hadn't anyone given me blood?

Where was everyone? It had gotten too quiet suddenly. Next thing I know, my mother is standing in front of me. Her hair is a dark earthy brown and her eyes shift from yellow to green to gray. The shifting colors are a way to spot a dragon of my own type, poisonous and a blood master. She smiles at me as if everything is going to be okay, then a giant shadow starts to encase her and she tells me to run. She keeps a happy facade as her voice trembles until she is gone.

The shadow makes it's way to me, but doesn't encase me. Something is stopping it, so it settles to take my mother's form and make me watch her death over and over again. I wake up in a fit of rage screaming.

Nemesio immediately embraces me, he has tears of blood running down his cheeks. "Nyx, you can't leave me alone. Never again."

The entire room is in pitch black, not a single light source anywhere.  This is not what bothers me. What bothers me is that I can only hear Nemesio. I can only feel his body and it doesn't feel warm. . . It's cold and almost unnaturally durable. My sense of smell is very much able to detect that we are back with the witch. We are underground because of the smell of wet earth and dirt, the sound of the water dripping on and off stalagmites and stalagtites.
"Why can't I see Nemesio?" I hiss. "Why am I hungry? What is going on?"

There is a catch, very subtle, so much so I almost doubt that I can hear it. But the quiver he can't hid from me makes it's way into his voice, "You- You're no longer of the bloodline. . ." He pauses as I feel my nails sharpen into claws and fangs drop, "We had to purge you. . . Lest anymore damage be done to you. Onyx. . . You're a full blooded dragon now. . . You can't return to the coven."
