Dan and Phil each held one of their daughter's soft hands as they stopped in front of a small brick building. It was Laura's first day in kindergarten. Phil bent down had held Laura's shoulders so she faced him. Her big green eyes were filled with excitement.

"Okay, sweetie. Remember what Daddy taught you?" She nodded. "It's a good thing to be strange because normalness leads to sadness. So don't worry if the other kids make fun of you for anything-"

Dan nudged his husband. "Phil, she'll be fine. Laura's a smart girl." He winked at the little girl and she winked back. Phil laughed contently. "We'll be back to pick you up in a few hours. Have fun!"

"Okay class. Go outside and line up for your parents to come pick you up!"

The children filed out one by one. Laura walked among her new classmates towards the entrance. She spotted her dads and waved, and her teacher let her go.

Laura heard a few snickers behind her and looked behind her, confused. A few of her classmates have gathered in a group and was pointing at her, smirking. "Look, Laura doesn't have a mom. She only has dads." They burst into heaps of laughter.

Laura was taken aback at the remark. She quickly pulled herself together and stood up straight. She held up two fingers. "At least I have two daddies. You guys only have one." She grinned proudly at her parents, who were blushing until their pale faces were beet-red.

"Come on, Laura, let's get going," Dan ushered along the girl, who turned around quickly to stick her tongue out at the other children.

Phil smacked Dan's behind and smirked when he turned to face him. "You used to call me Daddy too." Dan rolled his eyes and blushed even harder, if that was even possible. "Shut up," he muttered.

Laura looked at her father in disapproval. "Daddy, that's a mean thing to say."
