I was in the lab today and as usual we continued exploring the dead bodies into deeper segments in order to disclose the arteries, veins, and nerves. Some of the students managed the dissecting part; some were referring to the Anatomy books for the detailed procedures, while the rest were up to something else. I was merely turning the pages of the book while observing the process occasionally.
Out of the blue, a heated argument started on the “Theory of Evolution”. That immediately caught my attention and I decided to jump in. At first, I was listening attentively to the Pro & Anti Evolution points presented by them while my brain’s left hemisphere was busy enumerating and organizing the facts systematically. I realized that I was independent of the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus of my brain for absorbing those information as there were nothing new since what being said, argued and defended have been stored in my cerebral cortex long before. I was glad for being able to refresh those memories though! Thanks buddies!
I got myself engaged in the arguments eventually. Well, I’m not going to elaborate on “Winning” & “Losing” or “Right” & “Wrong” on that topic of argument here but merely the lessons I gained about “The Art of Arguing”. All of us have been subjected to certain indoctrinations under many important and sensitive issues in life such as religion, sexual orientation or certain things which are taught under the name of Education and etc but unfortunately many people choose to hold and stay back within those constrictions without questioning or having sufficient knowledge of such matters. You would definitely “lose” to these people. Such things happen even when you have too much knowledge on a subject but it’s one-sided. On the other hand, for people who know both sides or all sides of the arguments tend to be misunderstood by people most of the time. These people do hold certain perspective or opinion on the subject of discussion but would also defend the opposing view if “wrong” facts are being attributed to it. To get the facts right be it in supporting or opposing mode seems to be more important than winning or losing for these people. As a result, people get perplexed as to which side you are on actually. I hope I’ll fall more and more into the last category as I grow older and wiser despite the confusions I might create in people’s mind.
