Just a note to say

One thing I don't like about Christmas
Is standing in a queue
No one much likes queuing
But it's something we just have to do.

Post Office queues are the worst ones
Especially this time of the year
You'll be standing there for ever
But it's something we just have to do.

So it's always an awful moment
When the cards come through the door.
If you spot one there from the postman
Just staring up out of the pile.

It wasn't quite the usual
'We came but you weren't in.'
This one was slightly different.
Not the one that says 'you weren't in'.
The card on the mat said,
'Something to pay'
A 'wrong postage' kind of a thing.

Well it's not so far to the office
When all is said and done
So I hopped into the car
Drove into town
And paid to park the car.
I took a short walk to the place you collect
And reluctantly joined the queue.

Now the queue is never a good place
Especially this time of the year
And the queue today was like you'd expect
They were queuing right out of the door.
It seemed to last forever.
Had I put enough in for the car?
But after 45 minutes
I finally got to the front.

They found it fairly quickly
Which is always very good news
It looked like a very slim package
I hoped it was worth queuing for.
But I paid my two pounds
And what a surprise to find
That the package came from you.
So just writing this note
To say thanks very much
For sending a Christmas card.

A/N : A 'queue' is English for standing in line. I wasn't really annoyed with my friend. Ironically the same trip I was posting a cheque I'd forgotten to send him so it was kind of an apt punishment.
