⌠ 1 ⌡

The courtyard is empty

nowadays,

the sun hidden behind a curtain of clouds.

Mud squelches underneath my shoes

as I walk towards the tree.

Feeling its damp bark,

like wet leather,

droplets form on my fingertips.

I brush them off on my pants.

"Why..." I say.

Even this place was taken from me.

Now I had nowhere.

Fear rushes into my system.

Am I truly alone?

⌠ 2 ⌡

Behind me,

I hear careful footsteps,

as if avoiding the muddy patches.

"You'll catch a cold out here, idiot."

Ai.

"Come inside or I'll be angry."

I turn around,

meet her eyes.

She's the same as ever,

staring back at me unflinchingly,

dark eyeliner,

her pink hair.

"Where... can I go now?"

She smiles, a tinge of sadness.

"Follow me, alright? You'll see."

Something warm,

her hand?

Her slim fingers,

black nail polish,

smooth palm.

"Let's go."

⌠ 3 ⌡

The room is warm,

a small heater in the corner.

"Where did you steal that from?" I say.

"Shut it. I borrowed it from Nishikawa-sensei's room."

"I'm impressed he hasn't noticed yet."

Hidden at the edge of the school building,

a small, forgotten club room.

Dust is caked on everything,

the desks, chairs, books, floor, windowsill.
