"It's nothing," I tell him.
"Nervous 'cause they're so cute?"
"Shut up. That's not it."
"Then what's the problem?"
"Like I said, it's nothing!"
"Alright, jeez." He laughs and leans towards me.
"Just know I'm calling dibs on Sugawa, alright?" he whispers.
I stuff my hands in my pockets. "Whatever you say."
They introduce themselves. Sugawa Eri. Akiyama Yura.
Takeshi suggests we go to a cafe,
leading the way.
True to his word, Takeshi leaves me and Akiyama
behind to flirt with Sugawa.
Usually, I wouldn't mind,
but today is different.
Rain girl is next to me.
She walks carelessly,
her arms crossed behind her back.
She's humming something,
a pop song?
But we still haven't looked at each other.
The other two are already laughing
and talking.
Think. I was never this bad
with the other girls I didn't care about.
"Uh—"
"Hey—"
Our voices overlap.
We look at each other...
and burst out laughing.
The awkward atmosphere
washes away like a new canvas and
our laughter rings through the spring air.
