Well, I'm not a professional, but I've got God behind me with this and He is THE professional, so everything I say should be exactly what He wants you to hear! I'm here to help!

To be honest, this is a question I've asked myself upon multiple occasions, but for some dumb reason I never thought to look it up in the Bible. Now I am so glad I did. Here are a few of the verses I found:

"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." -Ephesians 4:29

"May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer." -Psalm 19:14

~

Plain and simple. Don't cuss. To go so far as to say it's a sin, yes I would say so because you have to think, is cussing feeding your spirit or your flesh? Is it a Godly thing or a worldly thing? I hope all of you agree with me that it is definitely a worldly habit that feeds your flesh, which is only exactly what the devil wants. Don't give in. Stay clean.

What do you think when you see or hear a Christian person using foul language and cussing? One of your firsts thoughts has to be "Well they're not a very good Christian, saying all those bad words!"

In the world we live in today, everything is based off of your first impression. For the first day of school you probably always dress your best, for an interview for a job you want to look and act at your very best as well... Guys, it's all about the impression you as a Christian give out for the world to see. Some people even think "If this Christian cusses then they all must! Such Hippocrates!" Which is SO not what we need to be putting into the minds of others because it's not true. Christians are loving and although we stumble and fail at times, we strive to be our very best. And a part of that should be not cursing. It's a habit and a trap of the world that we do not need to get caught up in.

Also, cussing doesn't make you look cool or smart... Some people want to even seem "bad" by it! So if you thought that, well you're completely wrong. (Excuse my bluntness.)

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

1.  What do you think about replacement cuss words (ex: "What the fudge?" Frick/heck/shizzle) They keep you from saying cuss words, but God still knows what you were thinking when you said it, so are the okay?
2. (Be completely honest. No one will judge. That's God's job, not ours.) Have you ever cussed?

•I don't use replacement cuss words. I probably have before, but I try my best to avoid all of it. MOST OF THEM feel just as bad when I say them as actual bad words.
•I'll be honest, I've cussed before. Just once. It was in seventh grade when I was best friends with an amazing girl who did cuss, and that day I was really frustrated with a teacher and I cussed (not to the teacher though... I'm not that bad!). I'm warning you guys, who you hang out with is going to have an influence on you no matter what you think.
