I am general Baptist.

However, I do not believe that any single denomination is right. Each denomination was created by humans. FLAWED humans, and anything we make is never going to be 100% right. It doesn't matter how you serve, it's WHO you serve that matters.

I am usually a very quiet person and like to keep to myself, so to be honest I try to avoid these situations, but it has happened to me before

I am usually a very quiet person and like to keep to myself, so to be honest I try to avoid these situations, but it has happened to me before. From my experience, I can say that you just need to let them know what you stand for (God) and that you don't want to be around that kind of influence, but that you will respect them no matter what. It will be hard because you may not like their life choices (in my case, the person was pansexual, cussed like a sailor, AND was openly for abortion), but when you let them know that you aren't afraid to be you and aren't afraid of them, they will immediately dim down a bit. My advice to you when dealing with a fighting atheist:

-Remember that what you are trying to do is plant a seed in that person. There is no way you would be able to completely turn around their beliefs on the spot. Things like that take time, so don't sit there determined to change them right then. It's not going to happen. The seed that you plant in them will (hopefully) grow on its own over time.

-Know the Bible, but don't go quoting every verse from it. As a Christian you may know what it means, but as an atheist it most likely will mean nothing or just confuse them, which is certainly not what we need to be doing.

-If you don't know what to do or the situation becomes too intense, walk away and come back once you've cooled off and done a bit of researching in the Bible and praying to help your case.

which leads to...

-Pray for guidance! You have access to the Holy Spirit like the flip of a switch, so don't rely solely on your own smarts or memory. Once you pray, it's like a whole new person has taken over your body and it is your faith speaking instead of you.

I apologize, this turned into more of mini sermon than just answering a question, but maybe you learned something from it! Haha! :)
