The fire cackled throughout the night, and I spent most of my time watching it. As dawn broke, I closed my eyes, only to wake two minutes later because of Nerr. I grimaced as she shook me violently. "Leave me be." I said, fatigue clouding my mind. "I want to sleep, for once."
"You can sleep later you lazy ass! You're going to be killed if you stay any longer." I groaned and rolled over.
"Please. I didn't sleep at all for the past two days. Let me sleep." I shivered into the ground, missing Aisu's warmth. I curled up, feeling peaceful. 'Maybe they got the message.' As soon as I voiced the thought to my mind, I was kicked in the ribs. I jumped up with a yelp and pulled out my sword.
"Good. Now get on the dragon." I glared at Nerr hatefully.
"Nerr..."
"Yes?"
"WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU?! DO YOU KNOW WHAT SHE WILL DO TO YOU?! SHE WILL GUT YOU, TAN YOU, AND SELL YOU!" Aaron yelled as he ran in, a bandage around his head. I grinned.
"Unfortunately for you, he's correct. I don't sleep much, but when I do, I don't like being woken." I put my sword in my bag, eyeing Nerr carefully. "Kallen? You ready?" I asked calmly.
"Yeah." Came the reply, from deep inside the cave. I turned to face Nerr.
"I stayed up for two days, TWO DAYS, to make sure that one, you didn't kill us, and TWO staying up all night to ensure that your sorry ass didn't get pummeled in the middle of the night so you could sleep well!" Nerr eyed me.
"You can sleep while we ride Lurri."
"Aisu...." I frowned, knowing I'd forgotten something. "Where's Aisu?" Nerr held up a puppy-sized Aisu, who was biting and clawing violently. I shoved back Nerr and snatched a yelping Aisu from her hands. 'Aisu, are you okay?'
'I apologize Milady! I tried to get free, but she used magic and I couldn't counter it in time! Perhaps another pack member would've been able to...'
'Aisu, I could never replace you. I want you by my side forever, and if I summon another pack member, you'll still stay by me.' Aisu barked happily and wagged his tail.
"Let's get a move on, bitches!" Nerr shouted. I wrapped Aisu in my arms and walked over to Lurri, to see he was... well huge. He was six times my size. Nerr climbed onto Lurri's back, behind his wings.
Seating Order on the Lurri:
Nerr (in front of wings)
Aaron (behind wings)
Me (holding on to Aisu, Lurri, and Aaron for dear life)
Kallen (who must be fearless, riding on the tail.... backward)
One of my arms was tight around Aaron's waist, making me blush. The other held Aisu close to me. My legs? Squeezing the death out of Lurri so I could hold on.... kinda. 'I HATE flying, Aisu!'
'The earth is MUCH more reliable. I'd rather run below.'
'Hell, I'd rather CARRY you as a huge Wolf and run below.'
'I don't think that's possible.'
'Well it describes how much I hate flying. Do you think Nerr will let us run?'
'No.'
'Damn.'
'Sleep, Mistress Snow. You need it.'
'But you might fall!'
'Trust me, I won't.' With a shiver at the cold air, I looked around. We were in the clouds, high above the earth. I felt vertigo go to my head. The air was moist up here; it felt like we were walking through heavy mist, or a medium drizzle. The oxygen was thinner here, and I had to take deep breaths to get the air I needed.
