Today is World Environmental Health Day,

a time to think of children's welfare,

they are the most vulnerable in our society,

with the amount of pollution everywhere.

They have less resistance to infection,

not helped by poor diet and nutrition,

they are exposed to air pollution from traffic,

tobacco smoke and industrial emission.

Smoking is a major public health and environmental health issue, 6 million people die each year from this, there is evidence linking tobacco use cancer of the kidneys, larynx, breast, bladder, pancreas and stomach. Also millions of cigarette butts end up in rivers and lakes where fish and animals eat them by mistake and quite often die. We must make sure our children are not exposed to dangers from toxic environment chemicals, there are dozens if not hundreds of these chemical emissions every day which have not been tested for safety with man or the environment. It is man's responsibility to look after the environment.
