It's Independence Day in Brazil,

it's a time for celebration,

it's when all the country parties,

no need for an invitation.

They have military parades and air shows,

concerts, singing and dancing all day,

wave banners, balloons, streamers and flags,

and finish with an awesome firework display.

It was on September 7th 1822 that Brazil claimed its independence from Portugal, it was in 1889 that Brazil finished with its monarchy and became a republic. The King of Portugal's son, Prince Dom Pedro was left in charge of Brazil when his father had to return to Portugal where a political revolution was taking place. Pedro remained in Brazil, he refused to go home, this was on January 9th 1822 which became known as Dia do Fico ( I'll stay day ) On September 7th 1822 Prince Pedro, standing near the Ipiranga river, tore up his uniform and flag and said "By my blood, by my honour, and by my God, I will make Brazil free" After that he became Emperor of Brazil and made any Portuguese forces leave. Today in Brasilia, Brazil's capital, they have a military parade, air shows, concerts, parades, singing and dancing and finally a firework display. This is a national holiday in Brazil.
