Today is to make people aware of Democracy,

and how voting should be honest and fair,

where people's choice make up the government,

but this doesn't happen everywhere.

Democracy means freedom of speech,

and where human rights have to be protected,

people's social and cultural aspects of life,

as well as beliefs, have to be respected.

The United Nations International Day of Democracy is held each year on September 15th to raise the importance of living in a Democratic world, this means that all those in government have been selected to represent the people by a fair and genuine election. Living in a Democratic society also means that human rights are respected, freedom of speech is permitted and cultural and social aspects of life as well as tradition are allowed to continue.

Democracy comes from two Greek words, Demos = the people and Kratia = power/ rule which gave " Demokratia" this in French went to Democratie then in the late 16th century went to Democracy.
