William Kidd (Scottish 1645-1701) Captain Kidd was originally commissioned to rid the sea of pirates but had the misfortune to attack an East India Company vessel, When he realised he was going to be arrested he hid some of his proceeds on Gardiners Island. Kidd was captured, tried in England and sentenced to death.

Edward Teach, more famously known as Blackbeard, started pirating in1713 being a crewman on ship whose captain was Benjamin Hornigold, when Hornigold accepted an offer of amnesty Teach took over, increased the guns capacity to 40 and renamed the ship the Queen Anne's Revenge. By adding four more vessels and 200 men he became one of the most infamous pirates. He had a very long dark beard which explains how he got his name. On November 22nd Blackbeard's forces were defeated, himself being killed as a result of five musket-ball wounds and 20 sword lacerations.
