Today is a national holiday,

in the city of Ceuta in Spain,

they've celebrated their independence since 1415,

King John left the town, no longer did he reign.

Today is a public holiday in Ceuta Spain because on September 2nd 1415 Pedro de Menzes, Count of Viana do Alentejo took control of the city from King John of Portugal. On this day people have parties and picnics. Others however hold protests because in their opinion Ceuta should be part of Morocco rather than Spain. Ceuta is a Spanish autonomous city on the African side of the Strait of Gibraltar. The Mediterranean separates it from the Spanish mainland, all of its land borders are with Morocco.
