Chapter Five

Watching the sunset dissolve into the night sky was an amazing site. I look over at the other guys on the beach. Blake and Amy were close to each other and talking in whispers. I've never seen Amy ever even talk to Blake until today and all ready they were all over each other. I look over to see some other familiar faces from school and I couldn't help but smile. This was probably the first non-school gathering I've been to in a long time. I look over at Anthony to see he was looking up at the stars.

"Don’t you just love the way stars look at night."

I barely heard his mumble as I was looking up. I lay down next to him watching in silence.  I could hear Amy giggle at something and look up. She was sitting on Blake's lap in her bikini top and ultra short shorts. Blake's face was nuzzled into her neck probably giving her a hicky. I notice Amy whisper something in Blake's ear and he nods. He lifts her up in his arms and walks down the beach with her moving farther and farther away.

Anthony and I were sitting in the sand together for over almost an hour just talking about random things. I feel a shadow hovering over me and look up. Amy was standing there with an uneasy smile on her face.

"What’s wrong?" she looks down at the sand not making eye contact with me.

"Umm Anthony can you take Marisol home tonight? I have to jet off right now."

The minute she said that sentence I knew what was going on. She was ditching me to go be with Blake.

"Yeah, sure. I don’t mind."

I started getting up and walking away. The fury rushing over me.

"She’s ditching me to go be with Blake?”  I thought in my head.

I was about half way down the beach before I realized how far I had walked off. The cool night breeze blew against my bare arms. I felt an adrenaline rush come over me. Skinny Dipping.  I started stripping off my short shorts and bikini top. Running into the ocean I felt alive and free. Crashing into the cold water sent a shock down my spine.

"God this felt good" I mumbled.

Then out of nowhere I felt a wave crash into me. I was spiraling around. The saltwater entered my lungs and eyes; burning them. I could feel my body feel heavier and heavier as I started to sink down.

"Oh god please don’t let me die. I'm not ready to die, there's a lot I haven't done yet." I prayed in my head.

My eyes started to close and I felt like it was all over. I lost the battle with death and now I was going to see "the light". I was dazed but I felt two arms wrap around my waist carrying me up from the bottom. I could feel the same hands laying me down on the sand, starting to perform CPR.

"How long had I been under the water?" I thought.

Oxygen finally entered my lungs and I was coughing like crazy. Surprisingly whoever saved me already pulled my clothes back on me. My eyes opened and it was blurring for a while. There was a brown haired guy kneeling down next to me.

"Are you okay? You shouldn't go into the ocean at night with these kinds of currents."

I looked around. I had never seen this guy before in my life. He looked at me with a concerned face.

"Who are you?" I mumbled.

"My name is Alejandro but you can call me Alex." he said with a proud smile.

Most Latino boys around her took great pride in their names, especially if they had a Spanish one.

"Oh I'm Marisol."

He nodded and helped me off the sand. The cool breeze hit me again and this time I started to shiver.

"Follow me I'll get you some warm clothes."

I followed him a little further down the beach and we stopped in front of a little tourist shop.

"I’m sorry that there's not much choosing range but its dry clothes".

I nodded my head and walked over to one of the T-Shirt racks. I pulled down a pretty black V-neck shirt that had Hawaiian flower on it. I turned around and looked at him.

"How's this one looking to you?" Even if he was a random guy that didn't mean he couldn’t help me with my fashion dilemmas.  He chuckled and shook his head.

“Yeah go with that one" he threw me towel to dry myself off.

“The changing room is down there" he pointed to the left, down the aisle.

After changing I felt awkward. "This guy just saved my life.”  I mumbled.

I walked back to the front of the store to find him standing there with his hands in his pockets and looking at the floor. It was a very sexy pose if you asked me. The moon lit up half his face showing some of his features. He was tall, muscled and had floppy short brown hair. He looked like an Abercrombie model. I cleared my throat and he looked up.

"Well I think I owe you right now because if it wasn't for you I would have probably drowned." I mumbled a little too fast.

"You don't owe me anything it just so happen I was walking home from the shop." he said.

“Please let me try and repay you. Maybe take you out for dinner one night?" I suggested looking down at the floor.

"A lady never pays for a meal but I will let you take me out. You just won't be paying." he smirked and I couldn't help but laugh.

I walked up to him and threw my arms around his neck hugging him tightly. "Thanks so much. I mean it".

I gave him my number and he returned with his. I walked back to the spot everyone was to find most of them were gone. "How long have I been missing?" I mumbled. I spotted Anthony on a long near the campfire. He looked stressed out and kind of worried. I walked over to him.

"Anthony?" he looked up and then leaped to his feet hugging me.

"Jesus Christ Marisol! Where the hell were you?" I lied to him and said I was sitting down the beach. It didn't make sense to tell a story that didn't need to be told.

I was alive wasn’t I? And that right now was the only thing that mattered.
