Beep. Beep. Beep.

Priscilla groaned and reached her arm over towards the nightstand to shut off her alarm set on her iPhone. She looked at the time--7:30 a.m. She had to be at the salon by 8:30 to set up her station and check everything before her appointment at 9:15.

Priscilla was the owner of her own hair salon and spa. She worked alongside her youngest sister, Stephanie. Being the oldest sister and taking care of her three younger sisters most of the time, she always loved styling their hair and even practiced on a few of her friends. She knew one day she would own her own salon and put others in charge.

She'd been working since she was 16, helping her mother out with the bills and helping to take care of her sisters. She attended college for business and hair and continued to work while she went to school. She was definitely someone her sisters looked up to.

As she rose out of her Queen sized bed, she stretched her body and walked to the bathroom to take a shower.

After cleaning herself up, she lotioned her body and ruffled her dark brown hair in the mirror before brushing it up into a ponytail. She applied her makeup and lipstick and sprayed perfume onto her body.

She walked out of the bathroom and opened the double doors to her walk-in closet. It was perfectly organized. Clothes on one side and jewelry and other accessories on the other side.

She slipped on her black bra and matching panties and pondered on the outfit she wanted to wear. She settled on a pair of black leather skirt, a white ruffled blouse and a pair of black and white striped Prada pumps. The price tag on those shoes made her cringe, but they looked so good on her feet and they made her legs look amazing.

She put them back only to come back thirty minutes later and buy them. She figured she made enough money, she was allowed to treat herself.

She looked at herself in the full length mirror and checked her teeth, making sure none of the matte burgundy shade stained her teeth.

She placed her sunglasses over her eyes and grabbed her phone and her purse. She walked downstairs and grabbed her car keys off of the table next to the front door. She walked out, using her house key to lock the door and walked towards her car.

She pressed the button on the key to unlock the door and got in. She buckled her seatbelt and started the car. She grabbed her phone and strolled through her contacts until she found Stephanie. She pressed her name and put the phone up to her ear.

"Hola." Stephanie answered.

"Despierta, puta! Es hora de ir a trabajar." Priscilla replied with a laugh.

Stephanie groaned. "Usted trabaja mis malditos nervios a veces, te lo juro."

"Pero me amas de todos modos. No mientas."

"Anyways, did you just call me to annoy me?"

"No, I called to see if you're on your way to the salon."

"I am, as a matter of fact. I have an appointment at 9:00."

"Alright. See you soon."

Priscilla hung up the phone and placed it inside of her purse. She adjusted her rearview mirror and drove off to the salon.

She used her key to unlock the doors to the salon and walked inside with Stephanie following behind her. She removed her sunglasses, placing them in her purse and began to set up her station.

"So how was your little date last night, Miss Thing?" Priscilla asked Stephanie.

Stephanie rolled her eyes and shook her head as she set up her station, "Boring. Annoying. Sucked donkey nuts. I had to drink at least four Cosmos just so I didn't bore my heel into his head. I'm starting to be so over dudes my age. I need someone that's at least 35."

"Was it that bad?" Priscilla laughed.

"You have no idea. All he talked about was himself and what he wanted to do. I couldn't even barely get a word in. He picked me up from the house, but I took an Uber home. As soon as I got home, I deleted and blocked his number."

"Damn, girl. I don't miss being in your shoes."

"You haven't been in my shoes in like five years, though. You wouldn't have a problem like I do."

"All I care about is getting my money up. I'm over men. Maybe I should start dating women."

"Oh, God. Please don't. Nothing against my bisexuals and lesbians, but I couldn't imagine you going that way."

Priscilla laughed and ran her fingers through her hair. The bell to the salon door sounded, indicating someone was walking in. Priscilla looked and saw Mia and Skye walking inside. Mia was the manicurist and pedicurist while Skye was a colorist and stylist.

"Good morning, good morning." Mia greeted them.

"Morning, ladies. What time is your appointments?" Priscilla asked them.

"I have 3 manicures and 3 pedicures. My first one is at 9:30." Mia told her.

"I have an appointment for 10:00." Skye told her as she placed her purse at her station.

"Do you two know if Lynne and Karrene are going to be here today?" Stephanie asked.

"I talked to Karrene last night and she's supposed to be here at 10:00. Lynne, I don't know for sure." Skye said.

Priscilla sighed and shook her head. "That girl is skating on thin ice. She hasn't been at work for two weeks. Hasn't called, hasn't texted. Nothing. One of y'all call her and let her know if she isn't here before lunch time, she can kiss her job goodbye. I got a new girl coming in later today anyways."

"What's her name?" Mia asked.

"Her name is Valerie. She's taking the walk-ins. If she does a good job, she'll have a permanent chair in the salon."

"Look at you, boss lady. Respect, respect." Skye complimented.

"Hey, gotta do what I gotta do. Hope y'all are ready for today."

The salon door opened and Stephanie's appointment walked in. She walked up to her and greeted her before leading her towards the back for her pedicure. Time to get the day started.
