2NE1 (pronounced like the number 21) was one of the most popular girls group during the time they were active. The group was originally made up of 4 girls and formed by YG Entertainment in 2009. Their name combined the phrases "21st century" and "new evolution". Their debut single "Fire" was released on May 16, 2009. They officially debuted in Japan in September 2011 through Avex Group.
Their album Crush was on Fuse TV's "40 Best Albums of 2014" and it ranked #6 on Rolling Stone's 20 Best Pop Albums of 2014. Also in 2014, they won the most daesang (grand) awards in MAMA history with 4 major awards.
Minzy left the group on April 5, 2016 and signed with MusicWorks Entertainment to pursue a career as a solo artist. In November 16, 2016 the group officially announced their disbandment and released a final, farewell single "Goodbye". CL wrote the lyrics for the song, which was originally written as a letter for Minzy. CL and Dara remained with YG, but Park Bom did not renew her contract. Dara has said that she would like to potentially have a solo debut.
