Chapter 2

It was lunch time by now and I was looking for Jake. But he was nowhere in sight, and honestly I didn't know where to look. I didn't even know where the cafeteria was... I definitely need some help.

"Excuse me?" I nodded a blonde girl's shoulder "I'm sorry if I'm bothering you, but I was wondering if you could help me find the cafeteria?"

"Sure. You must be new" She said nicely than I expected"I can take you to the cafeteria. I'm on my my way there actually" She nodded ahead "C'mon. We have to get there before the good food runs out" She said laughing "Oh and I'm Chloe by the way"

"Nice to meet you, I'm Ashley"

"You two know each other?" a male voice came from behind us.

"Jake!" I said relieved. I thought I was never going to find him.

"We kind of met five minutes ago" Chloe said with a chuckle "But I'm surprised to see that you two know each other"

"Chloe is my best friend" Jake explained to me "We know each other since..."

"Kindergarden" Chloe finished. They must get along pretty well if they complete each other sentences.

"So what? You guys want to go inside and eat?" Jake said, reading my thoughts. I was starving.

"Yes please!" I said taking their hands and dragging them in. We grabbed our food and sat on a table.

"So how was your day?" Jake asked me, while eating some french fries. 

I half heard him because I lost my mind looking a few tables back behind Jake. 

There he was. Austin. With the same smug look and the same suspicious eyes. He was walking toward a bunch of other boys. They did this weird handshake and sat together on a table, Austin sitting on top of the table with his feet on a chair and everyone circling around him. Of course he would do that. He thinks he rules the school. 

Everyone who walked next to them diverted their eyes, avoiding them. I couldn't quite figure out if it was out of indifference or out of fear. I'm going with the latest option.

I wouldn't have realized I had been staring at him for so long if he hadn't find my eyes out of the blue. He was chewing at something but his eyes were locked in mine. 

"What are you looking at?" Chloe asked snapping her fingers right in front of me, bringing me back.

"Shit. What?" I said shaking my head and looking at Chloe. She turned her eyes to the back, realizing what I was looking at. 

"Oh, I know" She chuckled " You were looking at those boys. The Crew" She said  air quoting flexing her fingers.

"The what?" I asked.

"'The Crew'" Jake repeated "Trust me, you don't want anything with those people"

"They're  not the kind of people you want to be around" Chloe followed "They have some dark business going on, everyone knows it. Just don't get near them and you'll be just fine" 

What could they possibly be doing that makes them dangerous to be around to? Whatever it is, I don't really want to know. I'm adding scary to Austin's charm list. 

I wanted to ask some things about it but I Jake's and Chloe's expressions tells me that they don't want to talk about this subject. So I just dropped it.

"You know what?" Jake tried to change the subject "There's a welcome back party tonight. You should go, meet some people"

I am not such a party person. Especially when I don't know anyone who's going. 

"Are you guys coming?" I asked.

"Of course we are" Chloe responded "It will be awesome! It's in this huge house near the outsides of the city. We cannot miss it!"

"So how was your first day?" My mom asked while giving me a plate.

"Not bad" I found it interesting she was asking me about my day. She never really does. 

"Did you make any new friends?"

"I met some very nice people. They showed me around and everything" I remembered about the party tonight. Not sure if I wanted to go or not, I decided to drop the question "Actually there's a party tonight they invited me to.."

"And you're going?" She asked, actually interested on the topic "You haven't gotten out since we moved here. You should go, make new friends"

I wasn't really expecting that answer.

"I guess I will" I vaguely said as I finished the pasta on the plate. 

"Well, if you do, don't come in late. Your father and I will go out on a work meeting and I don't know how long we'll take" 

I got a text from Chloe saying she could pick me up with Jake if I decided to go. Followed by another text a second later saying that she was actually picking me up and it wasn't a question. 

I smiled shaking my head as I read it and sent her my location on an impulse. 

What can I loose? Who knows how often they do this things around here, and if I don't want to be the new girl forever I need to start meeting new people. 

Without realizing time flew and it was already dark outside when Chloe texted me again, saying they where coming. 

I was ready. I decided not to put too much effort on my outfit and went along with some dark black jeans, a white top, small cross-body purse and black vans.

A loud honk told me they were here. Jake was driving a truck with Chloe in the passenger seat. She rolled the window down and waved. 

"Nice house" Chloe said as I jumped inside the car "Looks like you could fit twenty people in there" She joked. 

"Both my parents are lawyers" I explained a little uncomfortable "I don't usually talk about it with people, they tend to judge you before they know you, you know? And I don't want to go by 'the rich materialistic girl' cause that isn't really me"

"Well" Jake joined the conversation looking at me through the rear mirror "We won't say anything as long as you invite us over someday"

I smiled "Will do"  

It didn't took us long to get to the party. It was extremely crowded. You could see colorful lights coming out of the windows, very loud music and people screaming and laughing from the driveway. We stumbled across red cups as we came inside the house.

"Let me get us all some drinks" Jake said as he walked towards the kitchen. Chloe and I waited by the living room, which was now turned into a dance floor. 

Ignoring the fact that I didn't knew a single person in the room I felt comfortable. It had been a long time since I went to a party and I kind of missed the feeling. 

Jake didn't came back but Chloe introduced me to some really cool people. We all played some drinking card game, followed by another that involved teams and red cups and ping pong balls. I don't know if I was a terrible player or everyone was trying to make me lose but I ended up drinking a lot. 

"I can't. I really can't have another" I said stepping back from Chloe and her bottle of tequila. 

"Oh, come on!" She said following me "A bet is a bet" everyone else who was playing whistled and started chanting my name "Just one more"

I was about to give in, even though I knew I was drunk enough, but a loud sound made us all stop and turn back to the garden. People started going outside, following the loud noise that turned out being people chanting, yelling and cursing. 

"What is-" I didn't have to finish the sentence. As we walked outside we saw two people fighting and a mass of people circling them. 

It' was Austin.

He was fighting some strange boy, throwing punches everywhere. I don't know for how long this had been going on but both of them were pretty beaten up. 

Austin somehow managed to pin the guy to the ground and started beating him up nonstop. A boy stood up and pushed Austin back, pulling them apart. I recognized him, he was one of The Crew, one of Austin's friends. He actually managed to stop them somehow, but when everything seemed quiet Austin tried to run and punch that guy again, cursing as he was stopped by his friends. They had to drag him all around the garden until they were out of the house.

Without knowing why, I turned around and went outside, following their steps. Out on the drive way I looked both ways to see where they went. I almost came back inside but I heard Austin's voice ahead. 

And there they went, walking suspiciously across the street and towards the next turn.   

I don't know what I was expecting to find. Maybe it was the rush of the fight, maybe I was too drunk, but I followed them.

SOOOOO THIS IS GETTING INTERESTING!! and I promise it gets so much better! the next chapter is crucial. That's when everything starts to change.
