They say that it goes away
And maybe the feeling does
But the faint white lines don't
And the shame always stays

They say it's a state of mind
And maybe it really is
But being happy isn't a choice
Unless you can feel something

They say it's acceptable
And maybe it is
But they shame you when you hurt
And ignore your cries for help

They say they still love you
And maybe they really do
But they turn away
And leave you broken

They say you'll be happy again
And maybe you will
But not when the monsters
Keep silently crawling in

They say that you're okay
And maybe you will be
But there's always the doubt
That you never will be
