You had tried to talk with Price about his descicion. But you had no luck. He was firm in his belief that you still weren't ready to go on missions. In the meantime, Ghost had been called on to work a few times. Still not as much as before, the task force trying to handle most things without having to pull him away from you, but more than you were allowed to. Price had scheduled a lot of appointments with your physical therapist but you hadn't gone to any of them during the past three weeks. All motivation you had felt to get better had dissapeared and you didn't even want to think about trying to get it back.
The weeks looked pretty much the same. Ghost was gone for a few days, working, and you were at home walking around in your sweats, only having energy to tend to the cats and little more. When Ghost came home you would be a little happier, but then you would be just as sad when he had to leave again. Maya had been busy with lots of work and she didn't have time to meet up as much as she used to. You started thinking that soon there will be a worn down path between the bed and the pantry where you keep the cat food, the only two destinations in the apartment that you visited on a regular basis.
During tuesday afternoon, you finally manage to get out of the apartment. The cold air waves strands of your hair in front of your face as you walk to the corner store for some soda and a bag of chips. Your plan for the night is to watch that new episode of your favorite show and eat a bunch of junk food. Ghost had made sure there was meals ready to heat up and eat in the fridge, but you were not feeling like eating healthy. A bag of sourcream and onion chips is at least partly potatoes, that's enough healthy eating.
When you return from the corner store and slowly drag yourself up the stairs you are suddenly surprised by seeing Gandalf out in the hallway.
"What are you doing out here?" You ask, not excpecting a reply, switching the hand you're carrying the soda in before picking the little kitten up.
As you finally end up on your floor you see how Gandalf has managed to escape. Your front door is slightly ajar. You make your way inside and search around to make sure the other cats are still in the apartment. When you know they are all inside you close the door and make sure to check twice that you've locked it. Maybe you had forgotten when you left.
One week later, while Ghost was off on another mission, you plan to head out once again. This time to pick up a new prescription of some pain medication you still used from time to time for some of the pain in your hip. After putting on your shoes and zipping up your jacket you're almost ready to head out. You pat down your pockets to look for your keys but to your surprise they are not in your jacket pocket where you usually keep them. You search around the small apartment but can't seem to find them anywhere. Maybe Ghost had accidentally brought your keys with him yesterday when he left. It's a short walk to the pharmacy so you decide to not lock the door, but you are left with an uneasy feeling inside. Had you become so forgetful after the accident? Or when did you start forgetting to lock your door and placing your keys where you can't find them?
As you're walking, you take out your phone and send a text to Ghost asking him if he took your keys. His reply comes when you've gotten back home.
Simon: I saw them on the counter when I left. They should be there.
You are pretty sure you checked the kitchen counter when you were looking, but maybe you didn't look closely enough, so you get up to see if he's right. Once again you feel like something is off when you after looking thourougly still can't find them. You must have grabbed them and put them somewhere really strange. Luckily, Ghost was supposed to come back home in a day or two so maybe he could help you look for them then.
The next day you wake up earlier than usual, not by your own body but because you hear the front door open. Immediately your eyes are wide open and your heart is beating fast. Ghost hadn't said he was coming home today, and usually he arrived back home during the afternoon, not at 8 am. You hear footsteps and how the door is closed shut rather forcefully.
