You read the text over and over, not able to fully grasp what it is you are looking at. When the realization sets in, the memories come crashing back. They are so vivid, and you can feel his hands over your body once again. You remember the smell of smoke and alcohol on his breath and realize that the t-shirt you woke up in yesterday probably was his. You feel sick to your stomach.

"I—" you stumble over your words, unable to know what to say.

Your mind is racing, trying to come up with anything at all. It had only been a one time thing and you never planned on meeting him again, you don't even know how he got your number.

"I promise it's nothi—"

"Did you sleep with him?" Ghost interrupts you. The shame builds up like a dark cloud over your head, and you look down at your feet.

"Yes."

You hear him take a deep breath before he puts his fist to his forehead.

"When?"

"Saturday. It was just a one time thing." you say, desperately trying to salvage whatever you can.

"Why does he have your number then?" he challenges, looking up at you. His eyes look shattered, like broken glass and you feel a sharp sting in your chest.

"He's at the base for a week, probably got it from someone there." It's the only explanation you can come up with. "I promise it was just a stupid drunken mistake."

Ghost doesn't say anything more, he simply turns his head to the side and stares at nothing on the floor. You curse yourself for what you've done. Why did you go with him? You could just have stayed at the bar. And why did you drink yourself out of your mind?

Seeing him sitting on the bed, so defeated, makes your heart wrench and ache. It was never your intention for this to happen, you thought you would never meet Ghost again and were just out to have some fun. But you have fucked up, big time.

You can't describe it, but there's an urge within you, making you want to hug him. You take a step forward and wrap your arms around his neck, but he doesn't hug you back. Fuck fuck fuck. You have just gotten him back and your stupidity will take him away from you again. Your eyes start to burn and you try your best to not let the tears escape down your cheeks.

"Do you like him?" His voice is composed, but you can tell there is uncertainty hiding under the mask.

"No I don't, not at all." you say positively.

You hear Ghost let out a deep sigh and you feel his shoulders relax.

"Thank fuck for that."

He closes his eyes before turning his face to you, and when he opens them again they are glazed over and the whites of his eyes have a pinkish tint to them. He puts your phone on the bed, and then he wraps his arms around your hips. You are startled by his shift in emotion and when he presses his face into your stomach, you feel a tear travel down your cheek.

You stand in front of him with his arms around you, not moving an inch except for your hand stroking his back. Then your mind starts to wander, thinking about how he seemed so uncertain about your feelings.

"Don't you trust that I like you?" you ask.

He is quiet for a few seconds.

"I guess I have a hard time believing it." he says, having turned his head to the side to be able to speak while still having his cheek pressed against your stomach.

You think for a while. It's not like you have a mask to pull off your face to show him that you actually do like him. Then you remember the New Years party. Ghost would probably not be invited since he doesn't work at your base, but all Sergeants and above usually get a plus one.
