The next day you wave as the guys leave in their cars. They are going to be away for a few days and you will have time to try and figure out how the Russians knew you were coming. As they turn away from the small road and onto the bigger one, you walk back into the house. You make a cup of coffee for yourself and then you grab your laptop from the office and sit down on the couch in the living room.
During the days you keep trying to figure out how the information got out. You can't find any signs of your data being breached. No weird spikes in computer performance signaling someone might be using it remotely. There are no traces.
You consume lots of coffee. It doesn't taste as good as the tea Ghost makes, but you are not sure how he makes it and which kind it is so you don't even try to recreate it. You think back to where you had been discussing the plans. Only in the cabin in Mexico and the house here in Russia.
On the evening of day two you start to get frustrated. You had gotten a message from Price saying they would be home by lunch the next day and you would feel really guilty about not having anything to show for your work. You think back to the day, you and Keegan behind the house, hearing the shots. Then you realize it. They didn't know you would be coming from two directions, otherwise, they would have started to shoot at you too, so they didn't know about that part of the plan. The plan was changed at one point, and that was on the plane to Russia. Before that, everything you had talked about included an attack from one front. That means the leak had to have happened in Mexico. Now, what did they get their hands on in Mexico? The answer could possibly be at the trafficker's office, he must have received the info somehow. You write a text to Price on the phone he gave you, that you have kept it in your luggage ever since you got it.
You: I think I have a lead. I'll let you know tomorrow
You feel proud of yourself. You might not be the fighter they need, but you can benefit them in other ways. The phone vibrates.
Capt. Price: Good! :)
You are excited as the guys make their way into the recon room. This time it is you that is holding the meeting, not Price. You place a folder down on the table, it's filled with notes.
"So, after digging around a little, I think I have something big here." you say as you place your hand on the folder. "Remember how we changed the plan on our way here?" Everyone nods. "Well. The Russians never attacked me and Keegan, meaning they didn't know we would be at the back of the building." You can see how everyone's eyes light up, realizing what you are insinuating.
"So the info comes from Mexico?" asks Keegan and you turn to him.
"Yes." Then you turn to Price. "I want us to go back to the office. There might be something there we can use to figure out who told them." Price looks at you. He shifts in his chair, starting to stroke his beard.
"Well if you think it will lead somewhere, then I will trust you. We can go there tomorrow." You feel happy, almost like a giddy kid on Christmas. You turn to Ghost and he looks pleased, his eyes playing their part of a smile.
"Anything else?" Price asks.
"No that was it." you say with a smile.
"Well, everyone, you are dismissed. Remember we get up early tomorrow." he says as he stands up. Everyone around the table does the same and walks out of the room. You are the next to last one out, Ghost walking behind you.
As you are about to part from the guys and walk into the living room while they walk to their rooms, you feel a hand on your shoulder. You turn around. Ghost looks down at you.
"Good job l/n." He places his hand on your head, slightly ruffling your hair. You smile at him.
"Thank you."
