Loid's POV:
Our Anya has finally turned 18! I remember the day I adopted her from that orphanage. It seems like just yesterday when she first stepped into my life, bringing with her a whirlwind of change and unexpected joy. Now, as I watch her blow out the candles on her birthday cake, surrounded by her friends and well-wishers, I can't help but feel a surge of pride and a twinge of sadness. My little girl is all grown up.
Anya and I find ourselves alone in the living room. She sits beside me on the couch, a contented smile on her face.
"Thank you, Papa," she says softly. "For everything."
I wrap my arm around her, pulling her close. "You don't need to thank me, Anya. You've given me more than I could ever ask for."
We sit in comfortable silence for a while, the weight of the day settling in. I know that this newfound maturity in Anya brings with it a different set of challenges, no matter what I will always be there for my daughter.
The next morning, Yor and I set out early to complete our missions. Despite the impending doctor's appointment, the reality of our work doesn't allow us any time off. Each of us carries the weight of our respective roles, but today, there's an added layer of anticipation and excitement. Yor leaves first, her usual calm and composed self, though I can sense a hint of nervousness. It's a big day for both of us, and I can't help but think about the life growing inside her. The thought is both thrilling and daunting.
I head to my own mission, my mind divided between the tasks at hand and the upcoming appointment. As Twilight, I need to remain focused and efficient, but as Loid, the expectant father, my thoughts keep drifting back to Yor and the baby. After a few hours of intense work, I complete my mission successfully. I glance at my watch, realizing it's almost time to meet Yor at the clinic. I make my way there, my heart pounding with a mix of anxiety and excitement.
When I arrive, I find Yor already there, seated in the waiting room. She smiles when she sees me, and I can see the same mix of emotions reflected in her eyes.
"Loid," she says softly as I sit down beside her. "Are you ready?"
I nod, taking her hand in mine. "As ready as I'll ever be."
We're called in shortly after, and the doctor greets us warmly. The examination room is filled with the soft hum of machines, and the atmosphere is calm and reassuring. The doctor begins the ultrasound, and soon enough, the room is filled with the rhythmic sound of our baby's heartbeat.
"There it is," the doctor says with a smile. "A strong and healthy heartbeat."
Yor squeezes my hand, her eyes filling with tears of joy. I feel a wave of relief and happiness wash over me. For a moment, the world outside ceases to exist, and all that matters is the little life growing inside Yor.
The doctor continues to move the ultrasound wand, and suddenly, the smile on her face grows wider. "Oh, my," she says, her voice filled with surprise.
"What is it?" I ask, my heart skipping a beat.
The doctor looks at us with a twinkle in her eye. "It looks like you're expecting... twins!"
There's a moment of stunned silence as Yor and I process the news. Twins? I can barely manage one secret life, and now we're going to have two babies?
Yor's eyes are as wide as saucers. "Twins?" she repeats, her voice a mix of shock and excitement. "Loid, did you hear that? Twins!"
I nod, feeling a bit lightheaded. "I heard," I say, trying to keep my voice steady. "Two babies. Twice the joy, right?"
The doctor chuckles. "Twice the joy, twice the diapers, twice the sleepless nights."
I manage a laugh, though it comes out a bit strained. Yor seems to be taking it all in stride, her initial shock giving way to a radiant smile.
"Twins," she says again, more to herself than to anyone else. "This is amazing, Loid. We're going to be parents to twins."
We leave the clinic with a new sense of wonder and a lot to think about. As we walk home, I can't help but joke, "Well, looks like we're going to need a bigger house."
Yor giggles, the sound light and carefree. "And a lot more baby supplies."
"And maybe some extra hands," I add, thinking of Franky. "I'm sure Franky will be thrilled to help out."
"Or terrified," Yor replies with a laugh.
The doctor prints out the ultrasound images, handing them to us with a warm smile. "Congratulations, you two. I'll give you a moment to absorb the news."
As the doctor leaves the room, Yor and I turn to each other, holding the pictures of our unborn children. Her eyes sparkle with excitement and love, and I can feel my heart swelling with a mix of emotions.
"We're going to need a bigger apartment," I say, trying to inject some humor into the situation. "And a lot more baby supplies."
Yor laughs, a sound that fills me with warmth. "We can handle it. We have each other, and now we have them too."
Her optimism is infectious, and I find myself nodding. "You're right. We'll make it work. We'll be the best parents we can be."
As we leave the doctor's office, hand in hand, I can't help but think about the future. Raising twins will be a challenge, especially with my secret life as Twilight, but I know that Yor and I will face it together. Our family is growing, and with it, our love and determination.
In the car, Yor rests her head on my shoulder. "Loid, I know we have a lot to figure out, but I believe in us. We've overcome so much already."
I kiss her forehead gently. "We'll figure it out, Yor. Together."
The drive home is filled with excited chatter about names, nursery themes, and all the dreams we have for our twins. Every now and then, I catch a glimpse of Yor's smile, and it reassures me that no matter what challenges lie ahead, we will face them as a family. As we pull into our driveway, the reality of our new journey starts to sink in. We step inside, our home feeling different already, filled with the promise of new life and new beginnings.
