A decade has passed since Operation Strix began. The once volatile tensions between the East and West have calmed, thanks in part to Loid Forger's relentless efforts. However, rumors of a new program designed to reignite the hostilities have started...
I was filled with extreme anxiety, Dr. Wetson was taken, he was willing yet again to sacrifice his life for me. Please let him be okay... Why was this happening to us? What could they possibly want from us?
The metal doors opened, their sound echoing through the walls. Damian and I turned to the source of the sound, we grabbed onto each other's hand. Suddenly, Alina and her parents made their way towards the cell. Something seemed different with Alina, she walked behind her parents, in a more calm demeanor, her usual arrogant attitude was missing...
"Damian, I do apologize for these conditions, please have faith that in a couple hours, you will be set free," Mrs. Carter announced smiling. Damian looked at her in a confused manner.
"I'm sorry? you're letting us go?" He asked, as he clutched onto my hand. Mr. Carter shook his head, as he walked towards a metal table in the center of the room.
"No, Mr. Desmond, ultimately this is Anya's decision, she can choose to release you, we will no longer pursue the engagement between Alina and you. Damian Desmond will be free to do as he pleases, but in exchange, Anya Forger will remain here and contribute willingly to Project Eclipse " Mr. Carter announced, pointing now at the table. The table had a set of restraints, various tools glinting ominously under the harsh fluorescent lights.
Mr. Carter then moved back to the cell, his stand serious as he looked at me straight in the eye.
"If Anya chooses to deny your freedom, we will have no choice but to send you to the frontlines of Poland, you will fight in war til we finalize Project Eclipse, there and then will you be allowed back to Ostania,"
My heart pounded as I tried to process Mr. Carter's words. Released? Without me? The thought of being separated from Damian, after everything we had been through, was unbearable. However, I had to ensure his safety. He sacrificed way too much for me, he's always ensured I was well and safe... I promised him, I would protect him...
"Please think this through; we will be back momentarily-"
"No, please release Damian," I cried out. Damian turned to face me, his eyes widening as he began shaking his head in disapproval.
"Anya, no! I'm not leaving you!" Damian cried out, tears now began forming in his eyes. If he continued this, I definitely will not be able to let him go. I quickly rushed to his side, cupping his face in my hands, I took this time to really memorize his face. His pale skin, soft, yet rough from all the dirt and bruises. His hazel eyes, beautifully reflecting the dim light of our cell, were now filled with a mixture of fear and determination. I could feel the warmth of his tears on my fingertips, and my heart ached at the thought of parting from him.
"Damian," I whispered, my voice breaking, "you have to go. You have to get out of here and find help. It's the only way we'll all get out of this alive."
He shook his head furiously, his grip tightening on my wrists. "No, Anya. I won't leave you behind. We promised we'd always stick together."
"I know," I said, my own tears now mingling with his, "but sometimes, the only way to keep a promise is to let go. I love you so much Sy-on boy, I will love you always." I pressed my lips onto his, tangling my hands into his soft hair. After a couple seconds, I let go. Turning to face the wall.
