Yor's POV:
"Yuri, what are you doing here so late?" I ask my brother who purposely ignored my husband and made his way towards me.
"I got out a late shift and decided to come visit my sister!" He beamed. I couldn't help but smile, though he worked hard, he still felt the need to check up on me.
"I see, let me make you some tea," I said as I proceeded to make my way towards the kitchen. Loid had already begun to boil the water, standing close to the stove. He looked like he was in deep thought.
"How are we going to tell him?" Loid whispered. Was he worried about Yuri's reaction? I softly put a hand on his stiff shoulder. I could tell he was nervous, and I don't necessarily blame him. After a decade, Yuri's reactions haven't really calmed down. He was a bit nicer to Anya, but still held a grudge against Loid.
"Don't worry Loid! Leave it to me," I said. Just like our marriage plan! Yuri seemed to have accepted that fairly well, maybe he'll react the same way towards this news. Loid's eyes quickly widened as I made my way back to my brother.
"Yuri there's something I forgot to tell you!" I began. Loid quickly made his way to the living room.
"Yor wait!" He yelled.
"Be quiet Lottie, how dare you interrupt my sis-"
"Yuri, I'm pregnant!" I yelled out, the room was still and silent. Yuri's face was unreadable. Loid's face paled as he took a step back. A sudden creek was heard from the old floorboard Loid had stepped on. Suddenly, in a flash Yuri jumped on Loid.
"I see, so tell me Lottie, your carelessness and disloyalty to my sister has caused her to take measures into her own hands! She's gone off looking for someone to give her a child because you were so unattentive! I will make sure to have you exe-"
"Yuri! Stop it, I didn't cheat on my husband. This is his baby!" I yelled out. Oh God this is so embarrassing. Yuri's eye began twitching as he stood up.
"I see. Lottie, you may have impregnated my sister, but know this! I will never accept your spawn!" Yuri quickly ran out the door slamming the door in the process. The wall began to shake. As I stood there, stunned and a little horrified at Yuri's reaction. Loid slowly got up from the floor, his face still pale but his eyes filled with a mixture of concern and confusion.
"Yor, are you okay?" Loid asked, his voice gentle despite the chaos that had just erupted.
I nodded, feeling a wave of exhaustion wash over me. "I'm fine. I'm sorry, Loid. I didn't expect Yuri to react like that."
Loid shook his head, a small smile appearing on his face. "It's not your fault. Yuri's always been... passionate when it comes to you."
I sighed, knowing that was an understatement. Yuri had always been overprotective, and this news was bound to hit him hard. "I thought he might be happy for us," I said quietly, more to myself than to Loid.
Loid reached out and took my hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "He just needs time to process it. We all do. This is big news, Yor. But we'll handle it together."
I looked up at Loid, feeling a surge of love and gratitude. Despite the rocky start, I knew he would be there for me every step of the way. "Thank you, Loid."
He nodded, and we stood there in silence for a moment, drawing strength from each other. The sound of the boiling kettle broke the quiet, and Loid turned to finish making the tea. As I watched him, I couldn't help but think about the future. I hope Yuri will find it in his heart to love this baby.
The next morning I decided to give Yuri a call to check on him, hoping he had calmed down a bit.
The phone rang a few times before he picked up. "Yor?" His voice sounded tense, but less frantic than before.
"Yuri, are you alright?" I asked gently, trying to keep my tone calm and soothing.
There was a pause before he answered. "I'm sorry, sis. I just... I didn't expect that news. It caught me off guard."
"I understand, Yuri. It's a lot to take in. But I need you to know that Loid is a good husband, and he's going to be a great father. We're happy about this, and I hope you can be too."
Another pause, longer this time. "I'll try, Yor. For you. But it's hard to see anyone as good enough for you."
I smiled softly, feeling a mix of relief and affection for my overprotective brother. "I know, Yuri. But trust me on this, okay? Everything's going to be alright."
"Okay," he said, his voice softer now. "I'll see you soon, alright? I need some time to think."
"Take all the time you need," I replied. "Take care, Yuri."
"Bye, sis."
I hung up the phone, feeling a bit lighter. At least Yuri was willing to try to accept the situation. That was a start.
As I finished cleaning up, I found myself thinking about the future again. There would be challenges, certainly, but I was confident that with Loid by my side, we could handle them. I was about to head to the kitchen when Loid emerged from his study, looking thoughtful.
"Yor, do you have a moment?" he asked, his expression serious but gentle.
"Of course," I replied, walking over to join him on the couch.
He took my hands in his, his eyes searching mine. "I know this isn't going to be easy, especially with Yuri. But I want you to know that I'm here for you, for both of you. I want your brother to feel like he's.... part of our lives..." Loid said hesitantly. "Why don't we take a short trip to your old town,"
I blinked, surprised by the suggestion. "Loid, that would be amazing! Do you think that's a good idea?"
Loid nodded. "I think it's important. If Yuri sees how much we care for each other and how excited we are about the baby, it might help him come to terms with everything. Plus, it shows that we want him to be involved, not just as your brother but as an uncle."
I really don't know why I have become so emotional lately. I knew Loid was a kind man, but this just makes me feel like I'm the luckiest person in the world to have him by my side. Tears welled up in my eyes as I squeezed his hands.
"Loid, I don't know what to say. This means so much to me."
Loid smiled gently, brushing a tear away from my cheek. "You don't have to say anything, Yor. We'll make the arrangements and let Yuri know. It'll be a good chance for us all to bond." The thought of Yuri as an uncle brought a smile to my face. "Alright. I'll call him tomorrow and invite him. But we need to be prepared for... well, anything."
