The music continued to flow, and I felt a catharsis I hadn't experienced in years. I was no longer playing for approval or perfection; I was playing for myself, for the memories and the feelings I had long suppressed. My mind wandered to a younger me holding onto my father's hand, Father's voice echoing with cold encouragement. "Make me proud." The scene shifted to a hospital bed, surrounded by loneliness, no one there for the first day of school, no one cheering for the first Stella, no one watching the soccer tournament, no one celebrating birthdays.

I poured my heart into the keys. The room, though filled with people, felt like a sanctuary where I could finally release the burdens I had carried for so long. The music swelled, each note a testament to the journey I had been on.

Then, as the crescendo built, a flash of pink appeared in my thoughts. Memories of Anya hit me like a wave—her mischievous grin, her teasing, her moments of vulnerability, and most importantly, her laughter. Each memory brought a warmth and peace that seeped into the melody, softening the edges and adding a layer of hope.

The final notes echoed through the room, the last one lingering in the air. Silence followed, and I opened my eyes to see a sea of faces, many of them tear-streaked. The weight of their emotions matched my own, and I felt a connection that transcended words. I looked at Anya, who had tears in her eyes. She had always seen the best in me, even when I couldn't see it myself. Her support had been unwavering, and it had given me the courage to play from my heart. I realized how much I owed her, not just for tonight, but for helping me find my way back to the music I loved.

I got off the stage and made my way towards Anya and her family. Mr and Mrs. Forger stood up both walking towards me. Mrs. Forger put a gentle hand on my shoulder, "You have a gift, dear. Don't ever doubt that," Just hearing her say that filled my chest with so much warmth. My mother always neglected me in my time of need. I always knew Anya's mom was filled with nothing but kindness. A kindness I wish I had grown up with...

Mr. Forger was always a bit more serious. He was someone who guarded himself, he was very protective of his family, however, as stoic as he is, he had a way of making his words count. "Well done, son. You've made us all proud."

My heart began beating faster. The emotions I've held in all these years finally spilled as I heard the very words I had longed to hear from my own father. Tears welled up in my eyes, and I couldn't hold them back any longer. "Thank you," I said, my voice trembling. "Thank you so much."

Loid's expression softened even more, and he placed a comforting hand on my other shoulder. "You can call me Loid," he said gently. "You're like family to us now."

The words hit me harder than I expected. I felt a mix of gratitude, relief, and an overwhelming sense of belonging. This was the family I had always wanted but never had. Anya, who had been watching closely, stepped forward and wrapped her arms around me. "You did great, Damian. I'm so proud of you."

" It's all because of you Anya," I replied, giving her a small peck on her forehead.

The festival ended shortly after the performance. Many parents came to congratulate Sebastian and me. We were both swamped with compliments and praise, the air buzzing with excitement and admiration. The younger students, in particular, couldn't help but rush over to us, their eyes wide with awe.

"Can I have your autograph?" one of them asked, thrusting a piece of paper and a pen towards me. "You were amazing!"

"Can we take a picture with you?" another chimed in, holding up a phone.

"And your numbers? We should go on a group date!" a third added eagerly.

As I signed autographs and posed for pictures, I could feel a deep hole burning through my back. Turning slightly, I saw Anya and Becky standing a little way off, both of them watching the scene unfold. Both girls were fuming. I decided to get myself out of the situation as fast as possible. After all, it was Anya's birthday today...
