As Marina approached Captain Roberts' quarters, she couldn't shake the feeling of unease that had settled over her since her conversation with Sam. The once familiar corridors of the ship now seemed to whisper with hidden doubts and fears, and the weight of Captain Roberts' suspicion hung heavy in the air.

When she finally reached his door, Marina hesitated for a moment, steeling herself for what lay ahead. With a deep breath, she raised her hand and knocked firmly.

"Come in," Captain Roberts' voice called from within, though there was a noticeable lack of warmth in his tone.

Marina pushed open the door and entered the captain's cabin, her eyes meeting his with a mixture of determination and apprehension. The captain sat behind his desk, surrounded by charts and navigational instruments, his expression unreadable.

"Captain Roberts," Marina began, her voice steady despite the tumult of emotions churning within her. "I need to speak with you about something important."

The captain regarded her with a cool detachment, his gaze lingering on her with an intensity that sent a shiver down Marina's spine. "What is it, Marina?" he asked, his voice clipped and formal.

"I've noticed a change in your behavior towards me," Marina continued, pressing forward despite the growing sense of discomfort. "You've been distant, avoiding me, and questioning my intentions. I need to know why."

Captain Roberts' expression remained inscrutable, though a flicker of something unreadable passed through his eyes. "I'm simply exercising caution, Marina," he replied, his tone measured. "These waters are treacherous, and I cannot afford to overlook any potential risks to the safety of my crew and passengers."

"But why me?" Marina pressed, her frustration mounting. "What have I done to warrant your suspicion?"

The captain's lips tightened into a thin line, and for a moment, Marina thought she saw a flash of regret flicker across his features. "It's not about what you've done, Marina," he finally replied, his voice tinged with a hint of sadness. "It's about what you represent—a connection to the sea and its mysteries that I cannot afford to ignore."

Marina felt a surge of anger and betrayal rising within her, but she forced herself to remain calm. "Captain, I assure you, I am not hiding anything from you," she stated firmly. "You mention a connection to the sea, but don't you also share that connection? As a seasoned sailor, you and your crew have traversed oceans far and wide, sharing and gathering stories for longer than I've been alive. Yet, you're concerned about my bond with the ocean, which is precisely why you sought my presence on this ship."

Captain Roberts regarded Marina with a somber expression, his gaze betraying a hint of uncertainty. "You make a valid point, Marina," he conceded, his voice softening slightly. "But there are forces at play here that go beyond mere seafaring tales. There are secrets buried beneath these waves, ancient and powerful, and I fear that they may be tied to you in ways we cannot yet comprehend."

Marina's heart sank at his words. "I'm aware that the local islanders have spoken to you, Captain," she began, her voice steady despite the turmoil within her. "They've mentioned something about Sea Singers... about me. If you can't share with me what they've said, then I'm afraid I won't be able to assist you."

Captain Roberts paused, the lines of his face deepening with conflict. After a moment of heavy silence, he leaned back in his chair, his hands clasped together as if weighing his next words very carefully.

"Marina, I won't lie to you," he finally said, his voice graver than before. "The islanders warned me of a prophecy—old as the sea itself. They spoke of a Sea Singer whose song could summon storms, call forth monsters from the deep, and sway the very currents of the ocean. They fear—and respect—this power. And when they learned of you, of your connection to the sea, they suspected you might be the one foretold."
