person a is a royal who's been betrothed to person c their whole life. despite knowing this fact, person a was in love with their servant, person b, who have been sneaking off together under person c's nose.
when person c finally finds out, they're furious, and take matters into their own hands. they start dosing person a with a love potion every morning during breakfast, which has them suddenly forgetting person b and melting into person c's hands.
most people pay no mind, assuming person a has just finally accepted the fact that this is happening, but person b notices, and now has to figure out how to break the spell.
