A startled gasp escaped her lips as her weary, bloodshot eyes widened upon seeing me standing by the staircase.

She almost instantly caught her breath, realizing it was only me.

When I finally saw her in the flesh, breathing air, moving and actually alive instead of motionlessly dead in a coffin — as I presumed she'd be if Alice's vision went the way she saw it — I hurled myself at her with open arms.

"Bella!" I cried as I locked my arms around her. "Oh, thank God you're okay!"

She didn't react right away, seemingly perplexed by my sudden appearance and embrace.

"Scarlett?" There was a clear sense of confusion in her tone. "What's wrong?"

I finally let go and pulled away, as her puzzled, yet drained expression looked back at me.

"I'm sorry," my voice shivered as I tried to calm myself. "I just... I thought you were..."

I ceased my speech, realizing she didn't know yet who was there and why I thought she had done the unthinkable originally.

"You thought I what?" She demanded, squinting her eyes at me.

Just then, her eyes went round with shock as she looked over my shoulder — I knew instantly what she likely had noticed.

I turned to look over my shoulder with her and saw Alice had quietly walked out of the living room to the entryway that led into the foyer.

She stood there motionless as her puzzled golden eyes gazed at Bella by the doorway.

"Alice!" Bella gasped.

She rushed up to Alice, slamming into her as she wrapped her arms around her, and Alice embraced her back — still with a baffled expression on her porcelain face.

"Bella?" Alice said with a shrill of perplexity in her melodic voice.

"I'm sorry!" Bella maundered, quickly pulling away. "I just— I can't believe you're here! What are you—"

"Would you like to explain to us how you're alive?" Alice demanded conceringly.

Bella's astounded expression dropped. "What?"

"I saw a vision of you!" Alice told her. "You jumped off a cliff!"

She took a short moment to respond. "You saw that?"

Those three words confirmed to me that Billy's fabricated story wasn't true — that he likely made that up based on what really happened to keep me from worrying, seeing that she lived and came out unharmed.

"Bella, why did you do that?" I demanded upsettingly, as I approached her side. "Why in the hell would you try and kill yourself? What about Charlie? Or mom for that matter? How do you think we—"
