Part 11: War Begins

"The Siege Of Benben"

The siege has been going on for multiple days now, and as the CROS's fleet attempts to regain the pride they had before the New World Union's Operation Payday, they are constantly repelled. When the enemy fleet tries to form up into waves, they are met with heavy fire from black-hole based gun batteries, and suffer tremendous losses. Their numbers seem to dwindle as the industry assigned to them slowly begins to falter.

Corruption is also a major player in this battle, with some incredibly unfortunate vessels finding themselves completely weaponless, and the constant waves of ships blasting the massive base are always met with equally if not more intense return fire. When CROS ships attempt to utilize camouflage, they are met with the same fate as their uncloaked counterparts.

The two nations, in their military tech, had reached a point where they could negate each other's basic cloaking, and so, similarly cloaked New World Union ships were being shot at the same if not more intensely than their allies, though receiving less casualties due to engaging the enemy fleet at a much, MUCH longer range, and also utilizing devices in the station normally used for monitoring and studying the star to create solar flares.

The base, immune to the massive forced solar flares, is just fine, but the CROS fleets are not as well protected. Immediately, the older and not as well upgraded ships in the fleet get oneshotted and immediately detonate or simply deactivate due to lack of power, enabled fully by their lack of insulation and protection against this level of star-based radiation.

Some of the explosions also cause their allies to be hit, and, their thaumaturgic powerplants, being 'scared' by the influx of 'foreign' matter into their systems, proceed to rather comically detonate. Lieutenant Colonel Miller, still tirelessly manning gun systems in the base, checks his M3081 TPRUS level, to find it having increased by several hundred. Checking the leaderboard now while still maintaining fire superiority over the enemy with his guns, he finds him and his Task Force members occupying the top spots.

The OVRB contingent that still remained also had their controllers gaining loads of 'EXP' from the amount of CROS ships that they were destroying. To quote one of the OVRB battleship controllers, who was also an Office of Naval Intelligence operative, she said "It felt like a wyvernshoot, just like home, but, ya know, more fun." [she might be important] The CROS ships attacking SRF 'Benben' seemed to try every trick they had possible, yet the battle continued on for what would be months. The CROS, however, would not limit themselves to attacking a single New World Union installation.

NWU Peacekeeper Division 'Alpha-Balingia'

New Portsford

Portsford Lake, Federal Republic of Balingia

A group of New World Union Peacekeepers patrol around the newly built and uncreatively named New Portsford, a highly advanced iteration of the old Portsford in the former Balingian Empire, now the Federal Republic of Balingia. Peacekeepers, doing what their name says, ride around in vehicles and perform basic security actions, such as guarding doors and patrolling alongside ISUGVs.

Members from this division greet each other and rather happy locals, who, having now better adapted to their hybrid thaumaturgical-technological lifestyles, quietly enter their homes. Eventually though, these New World Union peacekeepers rapidly turned their heads to the clouds, or lack thereof.
