Part 10: Operation Payday and Universal War One

About 15 HSF-14s and 39s were hit and destroyed, though their pilots, safe inside pocket dimensions, simply got into new aircraft and got back to flying. As some CROS fleet vehicles attempted to bunch up to support each other with their armaments, the NWUSS Draco fired a nuclear missile into the midst of the bunch. The resulting explosion took out their engines and left hallways and rooms exposed to cold space. This also added more unfortunate CROS crew flying into the mushroom cloud.

Others still, like the other crewmen, crawled around for any debris they could find, and the scene repeated itself. Wherever the CROS 9th decided to bunch up, they got nuked, either by the Draco, aircraft flying in, or other ships that had joined. Back with the New World Union, they lost several hundred vessels now, though they were able to replace their losses, thanks to their massive industrial capacity, and while the CROS could replace their own, it took longer. The battle continued on for hours, missiles flying, guns blazing, railguns charging, and photonlasers quietly blasting.

Eventually, the 9th Fleet found itself in a desperate scenario, and resolved for one final option. Chatter was heard on comms as highly advanced New World Union decryption algorithms set to work, eventually realizing a rather not-that-cool fact. A massive blue tractor beam revved up from the final, largest CROS dreadnought that had not been destroyed yet. It engulfed the system's red-hot massive star, which then began to glow blue.

A green energy shield now appeared in front of the star's side that was facing the NWU, as the star began to accelerate. It rapidly surpassed the speed of light as it approached, which was due to highly advanced CROS thaumaturgy. The controller of the fleet's resident Kaiju Class Carrier smiled, and activated the tractor beam he had just had retrofitted on his carrier, and took control of the star himself.

Frantic terrified chatter came onto CROS comms channels, all monitored by the NWU as the star began flying back at the dreadnought. The massive star engulfed the last unfortunate CROS dreadnought, and the battle had been won. Upwards of 650,000 New World Union naval ship casualties -- all respawned -- versus millions of unreplaced CROS casualties. Recovery aircraft began to fly around space, picking up the CROS sailors without ships.

The CROS sailors were expecting to spend their last who-knows-how-long rotting in space, and were filled with fear first as New World Union aircraft approached, then with relief as nonhostile faces greeted them and brought them in. These vehicles then flew into the New World Union's ships, where they had originated, and the fleets then rushed off to reinforce a New World Union distress signal, though not after depositing their newly found POWs in camps.

Thuian Adjacent Star System, New World Union

A rather unoccupied solar system adjacent to Thuia is now the site of a massive New World Union megastructure the size of the whole solar system plus its surrounding dust cloud, and covered in guns, defensive, and offensive systems, reaching from end to end. Relatively small though in reality decently large amounts of thaumaturgical energy reach out from the facility, headed into space. The base was also newly built for the purpose of studying Thaumaturgy, and due to its closer proximity to the CROS's own universe, was adequately armed.

The site is also the new location and base of operations for Task Force Xeno, veterans of the war against the Lecelnan Union, who have now been reassigned here. They had just finished their lunch right as they saw vibrant rainbow multicolored flashes occur outside the base via pocket dimension portal windows, and they drop their empty food containers. Wordlessly and professionally understanding that they are soon going to be the victims of a CROS attack, they rush to weapon control stations.
