Best Birthday

Ram's POV 

At breakfast table, mom said about beach house plan. Nisha bhabhi lied that we usually go to beach house during this time and it's winter break for Nivi. I told that I have work, will come along with Jenny in the evening. It was all part of our plan. Jenny agreed saying she too has some work. I went to shopping, after looking around for 2 hours and annoying everyone in the boutique, I bought silver and sky blue combination lehenga choli for Jenny. I bought a ring too, I wanted to give her something that she can wear daily. I hope she likes it. I never saw her wear ring. 

I finished my shopping and went home around 3, Jenny was waiting in living room. We both had lunch. She waited for me! It made my day. We started to beach house around 4:30, it takes about 2 hours especially with the traffic. Jenny was so excited about the trip throughout the drive

When we entered the house, it was dark, then we heard everyone shout "surprise" and the fairy lights were on. The whole living room was decorated with fairy lights and Christmas decorations. There was Christmas tree about 7 feet, decorated with ornaments. Jenny was amazed looking around. 

"This is amazing, thank you so much" she said emotionally. She got gifts from car trunk and placed under Christmas tree, I helped her. There were already lots of gifts, probably mom and Nisha bhabhi got. We had fun playing games, table tennis, pool, some card games. After dinner we retired to our bedrooms around 10pm.

"I have a doubt... are you really Christian?" I asked. I didn't think before but her name and her parents names are Hindu names

"I'm Hindu but I respect all religions. I read Bible, Quran along with Bhagavad Gita, didn't lie about it" she said

"Why did you lie about religion? I asked. She looked down, holding back tears

"It's ok if you don't want to answer" I said 

"I wanted to stop your marriage but didn't want to marry you... I couldn't think of anything, thought mom and dad wouldn't accept me if I say I'm Christian. How wrong I was to think low of our family" she said honestly. She owns my family as hers, that made me happy 

"Ram, I never really apologized for what I did to you... aren't you angry with me? I projected you as bad boy who broke my heart..." she asked 

"It's past, we don't have to talk about it. I don't hate you Jenny, I'm tired, sleepy. We have all the time in the world if you want to talk" i said. Right now I want Jenny to sleep otherwise her surprise will be ruined. She nodded sadly. We both changed into night suits and went to bed. I was waiting for her to sleep but she didn't, tossing on bed. Usually she sleeps in minutes

"What's wrong?" I asked 

"Nothing, just not sleepy, sorry... am I disturbing you?" She asked. I feel that she might have misunderstood my reluctance to talk about past as my anger. I took out all the pillows in between us (we still sleep with pillow wall in between us). She was surprised. I moved towards her and took her into my arms. I wanted to break the walks between us, let her know that I accepted her into my life willingly and want to know if she accepts me. She would push me if she doesn't want our relation. She snuggled into my chest, holding my shirt. I kissed her forehead, she smiled and wished me good night, slept in couple of minutes. After 20 minutes I slowly unwrapped my arm around her, she is still clutching my shirt, slowly I got out of her hold, went to living room. My family were already there, making arrangements, even Nivi was awake, excitedly decorating. Everyone is looking at the click every now and then, eagerly waiting for the clock to stuck 12. When it was time, I got Jenny out, she was confused, worried something is not right. As soon as she came out of the room, we all shouted "happy birthday" turned on the lights". Jenny was in  tears

"We want to see your happy face, not tears" mom said kissing her forehead 

"Happy tears mom" she said. Everyone wished and gave gifts to Jenny. She cut the cake and gave Christmas gifts to everyone. We retired to our rooms around 2. Jenny was so happy. As soon as we went to room, Jenny hugged me

"Thank you so much Ram, this is the best birthday I ever had" 

I gave her my gifts, lehenga, diamond set and ring.

"What's the need for all these. You already gave me this family" she said

"I promised you that I will buy diamond set if you make best halwa remember? Radha showed how much you put your heart to make it, this is nothing compared to what you did for me..."

"But Ram, you don't have to get just because you said..."

"I know but I wanted to give you. This is the first time I bought something on my own. I'm terrible at it, usually mom does it for me..."

"This is so beautiful Ram, exactly like how I like" then she opened the ring

"You don't hand ring to your wife" she said giving me ring box. I took out the ring and put it on her left ring finger and kissed it, she blushed. I didn't know her size, got adjustable one. It is more beautiful on her. She blushed. She loved the dress too. We laid on bed, I wanted to take her into my arms but I don't know if she would be ok. The other time she was not well. 

Jenny snuggled into my chest and kissed my forehead. I wrapped my arms around her and slept contented
