Meera's POV

I went to Jenny's room to check how she is doing. She is dressed in skyblue salwar.

"How are you feeling? Did you sleep well?"

"I'm ok aunty, sorry mom... I usually have bad cramps but I don't even have pain now" she said smiling

"Why did you wake up early? You should have slept some more time" I said

"I usually wake up around 6:00am" she said

"Ram wakes up late... every morning it's huge task for me to wake hi," I said

"I will wake him from now on mom" she said smiling

"It's ritual that new bride makes something sweet" I said

"I don't even know basics of cooking mom, but I will try" she said sadly

"I will help. You don't have to cook everyday, don't worry about it. We have Radha, she makes wonderful dishes" I said

Radha has been cooking for almost three decades

"I would love to learn cooking mom" she said

I took her to Kitchen. Radha was there making breakfast. I took out all the ingredients for halwa(sweet).

I said I will help but Jenny wanted to do all by herself. She asked for the ingredients measurements and recipe and did it all by herself, didn't even let us touch when she burnt her hand. She didn't bother about the pain and finished cooking.

I see that it's her first time in kitchen. She has no idea of how to stir. Even then she did it sincerely.

I applied ointment on her hand.

"Mom, I made halwa" she said excitedly hugging me

I kissed her forehead

It was almost 8, I asked Jenny to wake up Ram.

Jenny's POV

I love mom so much, wish my mom is like her. I cooked for the first time. It's time for some fun after hard work. I went to guest room where Ram is sleeping.

I called his name twice, no response. I went near his ear and screamed. He woke up shouting

He looked at me in anger, If looks can kill I would have been burnt.

"Don't strain your optical muscles so much" i said

"What?" He asked

"I mean your eye muscles... wake up, it's late" I said

"Is this the way to wake up?" He said angrily

"Mom said it's huge task for her to wake you up everyday. I took it from today. You didn't like this way, no problem... I will use water tomorrow" i said

"I will see how you do such things, don't you dare" he said

"Like this" I grabbed bottle from his night stand and poured water on him

I ran from there. Before I could go out he grabbed me, lifted off his shoulder

"Put me down, what are you doing?" I shouted

He put me under shower and turned on shower holding me. He too got wet. I struggled but he is strong, I couldn't get out of his grip

I felt shy under his intense gaze, I forgot escaping plan.

He left me after sometime and I came out of the bathroom.

"Jenny, what happened? How did you get wet? I came to wake up Ram, he is not here?" Nisha didi asked

Same moment Ram came out of the bathroom in wet clothes. God! Way to get embarrassed

"Jenny change dress, Ram get ready and come fast. Everyone is waiting" Nisha didi said

"Lock the door next time" she left saying

I came back to room and changed into red salwar and went downstairs. Everyone was at dining table eating breakfast I wished them good morning.

They all ate my halwa, praised it and gave me gifts. Mom gave me necklace, dad gave earrings. Nisha didi gave diamond bracelet, Vishnu Baha'i gave necklace. Dadi gave antiques bangles and saree.

I tried to refuse politely but they said it's tradition and insisted.

Nisha didi gave me chocolate from Nivi, she went to school by the time I came downstairs. So sweet of her. I love kids, going to have great time with her.

Everyone left. I waited for Ram. After he came we both had breakfast. I served him my halwa

Ram took a spoonful and put it aside without eating making faces. Is it that bad?

"What's wrong?" I asked him

"It's horrible like glue, don't eat. Radha usually makes perfect, don't know how it happened" he said

I tasted it, it's really like glue and full of lumps.

I ran to room crying. How did they eat it?  No one said a single word how horrible it is and even gifted me.

"I'm  sorry, I didn't know you made that halwa?" He apologized

"Didn't know it's this horrible, everyone ate and even gave me gifts" I cried

"It's ok, you tried. It's not that bad, I finished my bowl" he said

He gave me ring

"It's horrible, I can't take it" i said

"It's tradition to gift new bride. Take it" he kept the ring box in my hand

"I will learn cooking and make best halwa" I said

"When you make I will gift you diamond necklace" he said smiling
